Job summary:

The Program Assistant (Floater) is responsible for ensuring and providing comprehensive Head Start services to children and their families. The Program Assistant uses the center environment to assist staff with creating rich learning opportunities that build on daily routines and support each child's development.

Responsibilities:

  • Understands and Manifests the Philosophy and Mission of ADSSA.
  • Assists classroom staff in all classroom activities, field trips and outdoor activities including lesson plans
  • Program Assistant assists in developing materials and providing activities related to the cultural background of the children and families served.
  • Program Assistant helps supervise at mealtime, eating with the children to encourage good nutrition and proper social skills.
  • Utilizes Practice Based Coaching cycle components for the purpose of assessing needs, engaging in focused observations, and providing reflection and feedback in order to set goals and develop action plans.
  • Helps keep the classroom and its contents clean and orderly.
  • Program Assistant supports the work of the classroom staff and managers, specialists and/or mental health consultant in carrying out individual plans for children with special needs.
  • Works with assigned children with disabilities.
  • Program Assistant sanitizes surfaces, picks up and puts away materials in the classroom or kitchen in order to maintain a safe and organized environment.
  • Program Assistant serves as custodian in the absence of the regular custodian on a periodic basis
  • Program Assistant substitutes for regular cook or assistant cook as needed
  • Participates in kitchen clean up, inventory and other kitchen tasks as requested
  • Program Assistant assist in other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Must obtain a Pre-K, or Infant/Toddler CDA within 6 months of hire.
  • Must have a valid Class C Texas Driver License.

Complexity of Work: Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment.

Personal Protective Equipment: Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as needed.
