VANGUARD GIFTED ACADEMY HEAD OF SCHOOL JOB POSTING

Vanguard Gifted Academy (“Vanguard”) is a small, K-5 independent school founded in 2017 to serve the needs of gifted children, I.Q. of 125 and above. It is located in Batavia, Illinois, a far west suburb of Chicago in the Fox Valley area. Vanguard’s mission is to guide gifted children toward a life of discovery, empowerment and innovation. The innovative Vanguard Model offers gifted children the opportunity to learn foundational skills with intellectual peers at a personalized pace as well as engage in projects and problem solving that reach across domains both individually and with developmental peers in collaborative groups. This model empowers students to achieve advanced academic knowledge and skills, develop confidence in their own ideas, and understand the design process, which enables them to move from identifying problems to successfully finding authentic solutions. Vanguard’s founding Head of School has announced her intention to retire by June 30th 2025.
Vanguard is beginning a search for a new Head of School who could transition into the position over the coming years. The successful candidate will function as the face of the school and must be an effective and persuasive communicator with the ability to passionately articulate the mission and vision for the school to internal and external constituencies. The successful candidate must also be: highly organized with effective time management skills; an analytical thinker; able to build collaboration and balance varying points of view in decision-making; able to mentor and assist the faculty in developing curricula, problem solving and professional development; an effective fundraiser; and experienced in managing a budget, preparing financial reports and tracking specific metric performance.

Responsibilities include:
● Administration:

  • Management of the annual budget and financial reporting.
  • Management of building and grounds including hiring of contractors for required services.
  • Management of daily school operations assuring safety and well being of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Provide emotional, behavioral, and medical support to students.
  • Preparation and presentation of annual State of the School report to parents
  • Participate in weekly calls with the President of the Board of Trustees to discuss immediate and short term facility needs as well as to report progress on initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Trustees on the development and implementation of strategic plans.

● Teaching and Learning:

  • Hiring and Supervision of faculty and staff.
  • Oversight of curriculum development and applications.
  • Oversight of student performance, including reviewing progress, discussions of student performance with faculty and attending parent conferences.
  • Management of before and after school enrichment programs.
  • Teaching duties on an as-needed basis.

● Admissions:

  • Management of enrollment process from inquiry through signing of contract.
  • Reviewing applications for financial aid and delegating funds.
  • Oversight of retention of enrolled students.

● Marketing:

  • Management of marketing efforts including collaboration with outside consultants on content for Vanguard website, inbound marketing, and social media postings.
  • Creation of a solid community outreach and local marketing plan, including developing relationships with local public and private educational institutions and area businesses.
  • Maintenance of and updates to the school website.

● Development:

  • Fundraising, including responsibility for launching and gaining participation in the

Annual Fund drive; identification of grant opportunities and preparation of grant applications.

  • Building new, and growing existing, networks for donations.

Qualifications:
● Master’s degree in gifted education or educational leadership
● Minimum 5 years of demonstrated excellence in school administration or teacher leadership in gifted education
● Entrepreneurial spirit and passion for innovative education
● Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
● Outstanding record keeping and organizational skills
