Reporting to a Program Manager, the HAZMAT Supervisor is a “boots on the ground” role that is responsible for safe transport of hazardous waste from customer locations to our Norfolk operation. This includes all phases of inventorying, packaging, loading, placarding, transport and unloading of hazardous waste.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to use hand and power tools for opening drums, cutting up materials and securing loads.
  • Transfer of pails, drums, totes and pallets from dock to truck and trucks to trailers.
  • Complete manifests, labeling of drums and inventory of materials.
  • Perform spill response activities during work hours and after hours, if needed.
  • Select appropriate placarding for hazmat transport and securing loads for over the road shipment of waste material.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Class A or B CDL with HAZMAT endorsement at time of hire and air brake endorsement (within 2 weeks of joining).
  • Skilled in consolidating chemical materials and chemical classifications.
  • Experience working in standard Microsoft Office programs.
  • Proficient with ELD programs and DOT hazmat regulations.
  • Strong time management, attention to detail, and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Knowledge of waste profiling and packaging.
  • HAZWOPER 40 Hour and refresher if appropriate
  • High School diploma or GED.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with RCRA, OSHA and DOT regulations.
  • Degree in a related field.

Additional Requirements:

  • Hours are from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm with a minimum of 40 hours per week. Additional hours will be required from time to time, depending on the status of the business.
  • This individual will be expected to take on an after-hour duty rotation, after initial training.
  • Must have a clean driving background and the ability to pass a drug screen and background check.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Working from our Norfolk, VA branch, this role is performed primarily in the field with some in office administrative work.
  • This position regularly requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, and kneeling.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment and materials that may weigh up to 350 pounds by oneself. Will be taught handling skills to assist if needed.
  • Work is a combination of office and outdoor physical labor working in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Uniforms will be provided, and steel toe boots are required.
