Summary:


Hazardous Waste Operations Site Manager for Chanute Plant will be responsible for all operational, safety, regulatory, and financial aspects, including cost-effective management of the rail car fleet designated to bring overflow material between Foreman and Chanute. They will be a member of Plant’s management team and maintain a strong relationship with Foreman Plant’s Plant Manager.
With a strong focus on operational excellence and site equipment throughput and uptime, the Site Manager’s success will be measured based on their ability to manage operations within budget, continuously improve the site operations through capital and non-capital projects, and maintain a strong working relationship with AFR haz waste operational counterparts at Foreman and Mississauga, Plant’s management team and external partners. This individual will also be directly involved with the development of AFR roadmap that increases AF% and Gross Value Added (GAV) benefit from AFR program to the plant.


The individual will directly manage the onsite Haz Waste Supervisor, who is responsible for all offloading, blending, safety, housekeeping, and other daily operational aspects of the haz waste site.


What you’ll be contributing:


  • Manage daily operations at Chanute haz waste processing site; indirectly oversee haz waste lab activities and railcar cleaning contractors
  • Build operational plans and manage staffing needs to deliver on key operational KPIs
  • Own operational excellence at the site, including customer service-related KPIs such as truck waiting time, truck offloading time, equipment uptime, spear parts inventory
  • Develop and own preventive maintenance plan for haz waste operations
  • Build and maintain a strong relationship with key haz waste partners, processors, transporters, and generators
  • Actively manage the performance of external partners, such as haz waste providers, transportation providers, and suppliers of various services related to haz waste operations
  • Provide leadership and input into the development, design, and implementation of capital projects
  • Track and report all relevant AFR KPI’s and related performance initiatives
  • Actively manage all operational expenses for the site
  • Closely work with the plant ops team to understand & remove roadblocks related to the use of AFR
  • Collaborate with the Plants and Environment Dept to proactively develop AFR permitting strategy
  • Collaborate with Corporate Environmental representatives to operate alternative fuels systems in compliance with environmental regulations and to plan and prepare CAPEX requests that include appropriate controls and equipment necessary to obtain permits suitable for desired AFR sources
  • Proactively contribute to development and knowledge transfer across Americas Cement AFR network of partners and experts
  • Collaborate in the development of Americas Cement AFR safety policy and guidelines


To succeed in this position, you will need:


Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s in engineering, finance, of other science field is preferred
  • MBA is preferred
  • Previous experience managing a site and team of hourly operators
  • Previous experience with mechanical and electrical system maintenance
  • Strong commitment to safety practices


Work Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience managing hazardous waste operations or similar highly regulated industrial operations
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial manufacturing operation similar in complexity to cement plant


Knowledge/Skill Requirements/ Others

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (Spanish or/and French is an asset)
  • Proficient in the use of computer, Excel, SAP, PowerPoint, Word
  • High resistance to stress
  • Demonstrated track level in successful people management
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
  • Proactively approaches responsibilities
  • Excellent collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Strong, well-developed project management and prioritization skills
