Job description
MAJOR FOCUS:
- Function as an on-track assistant to the horsemen that participate at Dover Downs. Most assistance will be provided to the drivers of horses during post parades and when approaching the starting gate prior to the start of the race.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist drivers with unmanageable horses during post parades
- Assist drivers with unmanageable horses while approaching the starting gate
- Assist in catching loose horses
- Communicate with Starter and Judges regarding potential safety issues created by unmanageable horses
- Communicate with Track Crew regarding track conditions, loose horse procedures, etc.
- Use extreme care and horsemanship to provide safety to all horses and horsemen racing at Dover Downs
- Work in high-traffic area with respect to horses and horsemen
- Provides exceptional customer service
- Works safely, following all established safety rules and regulations
- Communicates effectively with co-workers, supervisors and guests
- Follows all relevant policies and procedures
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS/EDUCATION:
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience required
- Licensed by the Delaware Harness Racing Commission (DHRC)
- Must be able to communicate with and assist horsemen and horses as necessary
- Must supply horses capable of performing the duties of outrider
- Must possess good communication skills
- Must be able to report to work on time as scheduled
- Must be able to work weekends, holidays and nights as needed
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check
- Must present an overall professional appearance and report to work in appropriate attire
- Must be able to speak, read and write English
