St. Mary Catholic School, a Pre-K through 8th grade school, located in historic Hagerstown, MD is seeking a full-time Guidance Counselor. The individual in this position is responsible for overseeing the cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral environment of the school through managing student behavior and addressing the needs of students in an age-appropriate manner. This position may include other related duties.

Job Responsibilities:

• Oversee and fulfill a guidance program that encourages a healthy behavioral and academic environment for the development of the whole child.
• Analyze student performance in class and identify sources of problems.
• Create programs based on student needs, including focusing on the areas of child and adolescent development, education strategies, self-management, and social interaction skills.
• Lead the Student Advocacy Team to respond to student learning concerns and ensure effective accommodations are updated for students with special needs.
• Facilitate communication between parents, teachers, administrators and students about behavior and academic problems to promote constructive participation.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in counseling or related field.
• Possession of, or willingness obtain, Maryland School Counselor Certification.
• Leadership skills to effectively work with parents and teachers.
• An appreciation for and understanding of the social, emotional, educational, and developmental needs of elementary/middle school children.
• Supports and upholds Catholic moral and social teaching and the mission of St. Mary Catholic School (practicing Catholic preferred).
• Demonstrates ability to operate with a growth mindset and seek opportunities for feedback
