THE POSITION

Washington County's Facilities and Parks takes great pride in the planning, constructing, maintaining, and repairing of nearly 40 County-owned buildings (over 1.9 million square feet), grounds, parks, and associated hardscape.

We are looking for a part-time Groundskeeper to coordinate and participate in the operation, construction, and maintenance of grounds and parks supported by Washington County. This position ensures secure, safe, and sanitary conditions of the grounds. They maintain the grounds for numerous downtown core facilities such as the County Courthouse Complex, Public Services Center, and Law Enforcement Center, as well as several remote locations. They receive technical/functional supervision while working alongside other grounds maintenance staff, seasonal workers, interns, volunteers, incarcerated workers, and contractors.

The ideal candidate for this position has excellent communication skills, an understanding of how to prioritize jobs, and works well with a wide variety of people. The ideal candidate for this position has experience enhancing the appearance of landscapes, building exteriors, and parking lots, as well as experience in the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems and small equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalent; AND
  • Three (3) or more years of increasingly responsible experience in landscape maintenance, parks maintenance, golf course maintenance, plant nursery work, or related fields.

  • This position requires the completion of a thorough criminal history check in accordance with Oregon Administrative Rules.

  • Some positions in this classification may require ability to obtain, within six (6) months of appointment, a Public Pesticide Applicator's License required by the State of Oregon, Department of Agriculture for Ornamental and Turf pesticide applications.

This is a non-represented position and is not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Regular and limited duration full-time employees working 30 hours or more per week and job share employees are eligible for benefits beginning on the first of the month following employment. Job share employees are responsible for 50% of the premium. Part-time regular, variable hour, and temporary positions are not eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits.
