Description of Job

GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Facilities department provides a safe, clean, and functional facility to enable the faculty, staff, and students of FRCC to achieve their educational goals. As a Grounds & Nursery I professional, you will properly maintain FRCC/Larimer Campus grounds to the high standard that the Facilities department expects. You will maintain any and all flower beds on campus as well as maintain the campus grounds including irrigation systems on a daily basis. This position will also participate in the snow removal duties for the Larimer Campus.

DUTIES:
Operate & Maintain Irrigation System
Operate and maintain irrigation system for the entire campus, including sprinklers, backflow preventers, and drip zones. Assist the Grounds II with monitoring and programming all controllers for all zones on campus. Trouble-shoot zone deficiencies stemming from water leaks, valves not operating properly and scheduling issues. Audit each zone monthly by examining scheduling and adjusting heads or replacing broken heads as needed. Assist Grounds II with repairs as needed and assist with the installation of control mechanisms.

Turf Management
Perform turf maintenance including mowing, trimming, edging, aeration, and fertilization. Identifying diseases or infestations of trees and shrubs and consults with Grounds II for recommendations for management.

Equipment Maintenance
Operate grounds equipment and perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance. ? Convert equipment for seasonal use. Track and log PM schedule and create a PM schedule for all equipment to include welding, oil change, tire repair, blade sharpening, snowplow equipment or engine repairs.

Snow Removal and Maintenance Operations
Participate during snow removal operations including operating snow removal equipment, ice spreaders and hand shoveling while following the correct reporting procedures. Maintaining all snow equipment and making adjustments as required. Schedule, track and conduct preventative maintenance on snow brushes, mowers, bobcat, tool cat, snow plows etc., logging all maintenance according to procedure.

Maintenance of Bed Flowers and Records
Maintaining established plantings, seasonal floral displays, shrubs, and trees and xeriscaping areas. This includes, trimming, thinning, mulching, and replanting. Maintaining drip and scheduling irrigations. This also includes replacing trees and recommending additional tree plantings. Consults with Grounds II for advice on solving issues.

Additional Duties
Assist the Facilities department leadership with maintaining the campus storm sewer system in accordance with the campus storm water program. Duties may include but not limited to inspecting detention pond structures, public outreach coordination, permit documentation and campus trash mitigation.


Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

One year of grounds care and maintenance, greenhouse, or plant nursery general labor work related to the position. Explain your experience and qualifications in detail on the application. ?(Part-time experience will be pro-rated)

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
Plant Identification: Making sure weeds are identified and pulled and plants are maintained according to species requirements.
Communication: Communication with supervisors and Grounds II, written communication with record keeping.
Critical Thinking: Make decisions related to identifying irrigation deficiencies, equipment issues and implementing integrated pest management.
Time Management: Making sure bed maintenance and mowing schedules are kept.
Technology: Written communication, record keeping and irrigation systems maintenance, read and send emails.
Operating Equipment and Tools: Snow removal, mowing and planting bed maintenance.
Irrigation System Knowledge: Being able to make irrigation repairs and identify system deficiencies.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT & CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Must submit to and successfully complete a pre-employment background check. Felony convictions or conviction of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to the job duties may disqualify you from consideration for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges and convictions, it is your responsibility to provide Front Range Community College, Office of Human Resources with an official disposition of the charges. Must have a valid Colorado Driver’s License.

NOTE: An essential function of this position requires exertion of up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects (i.e. lifting equipment, pushing grounds equipment, removing snow, etc.). It also requires constant or frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling and reaching. Successful candidate must be able to follow verbal communications and be able to read and comprehend written directions on labels, machinery and in manuals, etc. Also must be able to interpret written directives, policies, guidelines and memos. This position will work Shift Work as needed for snow removal and be On-Call for emergencies including both snow and maintenance related.
