We believe that inclusion helps us thrive and grow at United across our collaborative Finance teams consisting of Financial Planning & Analysis, Internal Audit, Treasury, Global Procurement, Controllership, Investor Relations and more. These teams provide the financial fuel that keeps our operation running from providing detailed analyses of financial planning, performance, and forecasts to managing our investments and financial strategies. Our Finance team plays an integral role in making our airline profitable and successful by meeting our financial goals.

Key Responsibilities:

The Fleet group is a part of Global Procurement in the Finance division at United Airlines and is focused on implementing the fleet plan which generally entails:

  • Returning aircraft off lease that are excess to the fleet plan
  • Selling owned aircraft that are excess to the fleet plan
  • Extending the leases on aircraft already in the fleet
  • Purchasing aircraft off lease already in the fleet
  • Sourcing and procuring used aircraft either by lease or purchase
  • Sourcing and procuring new aircraft from lessors

This position supports the Director of Fleet by accomplishing assigned projects required to implement the fleet plan and support other department objectives while achieving favorable economic results. Efforts will primarily be focused in four areas of responsibility:

  • Leading efforts to gather and model data (including discounted cash flow and Profit & Loss impact analysis)
  • Negotiating with counterparties
  • Presenting recommendations to senior and executive leadership
  • Managing the drafting of contract documentation with Legal.

Additional time will be used to accomplish other ad hoc projects and reports as assigned. The position requires extensive coordination and communication with various groups including Financial Planning and Analysis, Accounting, Legal, Corporate Finance, Tax, Technical Operations, Risk Management, Network Planning, and Network Operations, as well as other groups within Global Procurement.

  • This is a hybrid position at our Corporate Support Center (Willis Tower) in Chicago, IL.

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, or Engineering
  • 4+ years of related experience, including 2+ years of experience buying, selling, and leasing aircraft and aircraft components
  • Organized and able to multi-task
  • Resourceful
  • Proactive
  • Able to work well under pressure

  • Detail oriented
  • Persuasive (good negotiator)
  • Accountable
  • Focused on meeting deadlines
  • Strong communication skills
  • Advanced MS Word and Excel skills
  • Experience in contracting agreements
  • Good at making decisions and presenting recommendations
  • Financial analysis experience
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
