Job Summary

The Getches-Wilkinson Center encourages applications for a Program Coordinator! The Coordinator supports the Executive Director's fundraising and external relations efforts and coordinates the day-to-day administrative and operational functions of the Center as overseen by the Executive Director. This position is responsible for event coordination, marketing, and publicity and serves as the point of contact for Center-related inquiries. At times, the Program Coordinator is expected to function minimal direction and mentorship. The interdisciplinary nature of the Center requires collaboration with other departments on campus, and with area businesses and law firms.

Who We Are

The Getches-Wilkinson Center for Natural Resources, Energy and the Environment (GWC) continues the long-standing work of Colorado Law’s Natural Resources Law Center. The GWC endeavors to serve the people of the American West, the nation, and the world through creative, interdisciplinary research, ambitious, inclusive instructing and innovative problem solving in order to further true sustainability for our use of the lands, waters, and environment. Major programs and initiatives focus on natural resources, water and public lands issues in Colorado and the West; energy and environmental security in the developing world; electricity regulation and energy policy; climate change law and policy; and native communities and environmental justice.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Event Coordination:

  • The Program Coordinator is responsible for designing, organizing, coordinating, and conducting Center-related events. This may include maintaining a calendar of all events and meetings, managing speaker travel arrangements, catering, IT/AV needs, securing room reservations, arranging for parking permits, reviewing vendor contracts, room set-up and break down, day-of-event management including event registration, supervising Center employees, and processing press releases after each event and follow-up with participants as needed.

Fundraising Campaign:

  • The Getches-Wilkinson Center plans to receive a large percentage of its operating budget from financial contributions made by area companies and law firms. The Program Coordinator is responsible for managing and evaluating the fundraising campaign, informing the Executive Director of design and implementation changes necessary to accomplish the program’s goals and objectives.

Program Outreach and Marketing:

  • The Program Coordinator is responsible for creating and evaluating the program’s marketing and promotional programs. The Coordinator will work with the Executive Director to determine the best method for promoting the Center's activities to students, and the outside community, and build and distribute an annual newsletter describing recent events, and previewing upcoming events (this includes article solicitation and submission, editing, layout, production, and distribution.)

Accounting and Financial Management:

  • Responsible for ensuring proper payment, accounting, and budgeting for Center expenditures and Ensure proper financial management for Center grant applications, foundation accounts, and other project funds.

Research Assistant, Intern, and Fellow Hiring Process:

  • Provide oversight and logistical implementation related to the hiring of Center Research Assistants, Interns, and program Fellows. The process will include marketing the positions, collecting and screening applicants, setting up and conducting interviews with proper program staff, and providing vital follow up including; onboarding and documentation, facility and office needs, and documentation.

  • This is a temporary, full-time position anticipated to last up to 12 months.
  • This position is in a hybrid work situation.

What We Can Offer

  • The salary range for this position is $32.00 - $36.00 hourly.

Benefits

Temporary positions at the University of Colorado are not benefits-eligible, however, all positions are eligible for paid sick leave.

What We Require

  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • Three years of dynamically responsible professional experience and involvement including event planning, marketing, and/or outreach.
  • Appropriate experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

What You Will Need

  • Ability to work with very little supervision, work well in teams and operate proactively.
  • Ability to work with broad variety of constituents including faculty, staff, students, and key external constituents in a coordinated and collaborative manner.
  • Past success planning a variety of professional events.
  • Ability to remain calm under stress; quickly solve last minute changes, and ability to adapt to a changing environment.
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills and strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Promote an inclusive environment which reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by law school students, staff, faculty, and community members.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously, while achieving results within appropriate timeframes.
  • Positive demeanor, resourceful nature, and excellent problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Two years experience with not-for-profit or public administration, teaching, fundraising, or demonstrated leadership in a similar responsible position.
  • Familiarity with natural resources, energy, and environmental issues.
