Job Description
GEI Consultants, Inc. is seeking an entry level Civil/Geotechnical Engineer to join our Exton, PA office. Under supervision of more senior staff, this individual will support field and engineering design efforts. Field activities will include coordination and documentation of geotechnical and environmental soil borings; installation of wells and geotechnical instrumentation; collection of groundwater, sediment, and soil samples; and oversight and documentation during construction. This individual will also support design efforts that include preparation of design documents for foundations and excavations support systems; ground improvement; instrumentation; and environmental work. Projects include private developments, public infrastructure work, maritime, and others and typically include shallow and deep foundations, ground improvement, earth retention systems, and geotechnical instrumentation.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
The desired skills include construction observation/ management, geotechnical and structural design, instrumentation design and interpretation, and technical specification support. Familiarity with basic excavation support design and foundation design is a plus. Other responsibilities include:
- Supporting site investigations and site assessments including observing soil borings and testing, performing environmental sampling, and overseeing subcontractors.
- Coordinating and interpreting lab tests.
- Performing engineering analysis and calculations.
- Preparing technical memos, reports, and construction specifications.
- Preparing and modifying drawings using AutoCad.
- This position has a field component, so travel is required. Candidates should be prepared to work in inclement conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. in Civil, Geotechnical or Geological Engineering; M.S. is a plus.
- E.I.T. is a plus
- 0-2 years of previous professional experience in civil/geotechnical/environmental engineering and consulting; knowledge and familiarity with engineering design processes.
- Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
- Experience with spatial analysis and visualization software such as CAD, Civil 3D, and GIS.
- Experience with geotechnical design software.
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
- Willingness and ability to perform field tasks and oversight.
- 40 hr. HAZWOPER is a plus.
- Valid U.S. driver s license.
