Lead Buyer for Flora Grubb Gardens in Los Angeles

We are looking to add an experienced plant buyer to our team! This position is for a hardworking person with a positive attitude who loves to work with a team and is excited to grow professionally. Plant buying experience and knowledge of ornamental plants is required. This job has a nice combination of desk work and standing-up work in our beautiful retail nursery surroundings.

We believe in creating lavishly beautiful gardens that require minimal water and chemicals to maintain. We’ve operated a retail plant nursery in San Francisco for 20 years. We are thrilled to be opening our second retail location in Los Angeles in 2023..

You will select plants to be purchased for our store, working with local and specialty vendors. You’ll work with a team of very skilled horticulturalists to further our mission of offering climate-appropriate plants. You will purchase plants for indoors and outdoors. You’ll support other buyers who purchase pottery, drygoods, and garden furnishings.

You will work with our point of sale and inventory system to create purchase orders, manage incoming merchandise, and help keep accurate records. You will need to have experience working in inventory management software.

You will move between your desk, receiving areas, and the nursery, confirming merchandise needs and communicating with other teams to move and display incoming goods. Although this is not a customer service job, you will at times work directly with customers on special orders.

To be successful in this role, you should be an outstanding communicator who works well with others to achieve shared goals. You will need to love working with data as well as plants, as you will spend upwards of half of your day working on a computer in our inventory system. You will need to be detail oriented in your work, and take pride in accuracy. Bring your past data-entry expertise with you to assess systems and to innovate and create new goals.
