Opportunity

A Contract Lumber Safety Specialist is responsible for assisting in monitoring and coordinating Contract Lumber’s health and safety programs, including safety inspections, accident investigations and safety training. Bilingual speakers a plus, but not a must (English/Spanish). A strong belief in the mission and goals of the company are necessary to this position.

Day to Day

  • Participates in the development and implementation of company-wide safety programs such as lockout/tagout, confined space entry, fire protection, machine guarding, forklift safety, and other OSHA safety compliance programs
  • Advises the management team regarding safety protocols and procedures to ensure the safety of Contract Lumber employees, faculty, and staff as well as regulatory compliance as mandated by local, state, and federal agencies, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
  • Performs hazard analyses and recommends mitigation procedures to the management team
  • Participates in the development and implementation of department safety work order tracking and reporting
  • Conducts routine and follow-up environmental health, safety, and hazard inspections of assigned lumber facilities
  • Responds to emergency situations involving hazardous materials, fire and smoke incidents, or unknown hazards; prepares reports of findings and submits recommendations
  • Analyzes accident and incident reports for trends; makes recommendations for correcting unsafe conditions and actions
  • Leads and/or guides the work of lower-level safety technicians and/or student employees
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Skill Set

  • Great Attitude and a Team Player
  • Associates degree; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
  • 1910 OSHA 30 hour
  • First Aid CPR AED
