Class Summary

The B2 (Building Brains) Afterschool Program Leader is responsible for supporting the development, organization, implementation, coordination, evaluation, and day to day operation of Gwinnett County’s after school programs in an effort to provide safe places for children and youth when their parents are not available as well as academic support, school readiness, enrichment activities, and child/youth development, which are all critically important so that every child in Gwinnett has the opportunity to become an educated and productive citizen.

The position requires employee to have a flexible work schedule and be available to work at multiple afterschool sites located across Gwinnett County.

Essential Duties
  • Provide leadership, coordination, and participation in the development of curriculum and the implementation of instructional strategies, evaluating programs and services on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on out of school learning and child growth and development
  • Provide in-service training for after school education providers, team members, teachers, and parents
  • Supervise staff to include prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained, ensuring the employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making, hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations
  • Develop, oversee, visit, and schedule the daily activities of after school related programs and events and instruct courses when necessary
  • Complete various forms and reports regarding program objectives, evaluation, and financial status
  • Work with educational partners to ensure that curriculum and programming is aligned with appropriate national, state and local learning standards including the Georgia Afterschool and Youth Development Quality Standards
  • Ensure the safety of program participants and facility operations
  • Coordinate activities with internal and external departments to determine program needs, evaluating program objectives, and marketing needs
  • Valid Georgia Driver's License
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications within 6 months
  • Assist in the developing and implementing program marketing objectives
  • Keep up to date with developments in educational research and practice, specifically pertaining to out of school learning

This job entails fiduciary responsibility and requires a credit check.
This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.

Grade
The grade for this position is B22(1).

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree in early childhood education, elementary education or similar field.
  • One year of related experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed below
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of educational curriculum development and program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom/behavior management, and research related to learning
  • Exhibits a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and has the interpersonal skills to collaborate and engage well with a broad spectrum of ages, cultures, and languages
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for a variety of audiences
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of educational curriculum development and program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of classroom/childcare supervisory/management is preferred

The Community Engagement and Collaboration Division of Gwinnett Community Services is responsible for various initiatives and programs that have a direct impact on Gwinnett residents including early learning, digital learning, community collaboration, marketing, Live Healthy Gwinnett, Volunteer Gwinnett, and more.
