Front Office Specialist - Physician Office

Job Summary:
Registers, schedules, and performs related processing duties for all patients being served by the respective physician practice/clinic. Must understand and abide by Patient Relations policy of organization as the individual in this position is often the first interaction established with patients.
  • Answer incoming calls; route incoming calls correctly and take accurate messages when unable to connect caller to requested party
  • Schedule patient appointments
  • Greet patients and provide necessary paperwork for completion
  • Monitor reception area and patient flow; notify patients of delays
  • Answer questions and provide information in person and via telephone
  • Check patients out
  • Collect patient co-pays
  • Close the cash drawer and create the deposit
  • Update patient information and insurance in chart or EMR
  • Notify appropriate staff that patient is present after patient has completed paperwork
  • Print out all labels, forms, etc., for patient charts and assemble charts before appointment
  • Call in prescriptions to pharmacies
  • Obtains authorizations as needed for necessary tests ordered by physician or mid-level provider
  • Perform other miscellaneous office/clerical duties as needed and/or as assigned by the office manager or physicians

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge and training in medical terminology, keyboarding and computer skills
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office
  • Minimum of one (1) year previous demonstrated work experience in the areas of scheduling registration, patient billing and/or medical insurance processing
