    FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION OF UNIT: The Freshman Academy Director reports to the Upper School Principal and is responsible for the administration and supervision of the programs that support the instructional program as well as providing instructional leadership and coordination for the Freshman Academy in the Upper School.

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Assists the principal in providing for the safety and security of personnel, buildings and grounds.
    • Is responsible for the instructional leadership of programs under their supervision.
    • Conducts conferences with students, parents, staff, and agencies to assist in resolving educational, behavioral, and social problems of students.
    • Acts as an instructional leader.
    • Collects, analyses, synthesizes and distributes data to enhance teacher development, student performance and communication with stakeholders.
    • Oversees functional areas as assigned by the principal.
    • Builds collaborative relationships with faculty and staff.
    • Collaborates with social emotional support function of the school.
    • Helps coordinate family and community involvement in a way that positively impacts the educational mission of the school.
    • Accesses and develops professional knowledge to support the educational mission of the school.
    • Coordinates the activities of a student family group.
    • Teaches up to one class in his/her area of certification, or jointly with a teacher who is certified in that area.
    • Assists in the implementation of staff development and inservice activities for school-based staff for programs under their supervision.
    • Maintains appropriate records and completes required reports.
    • Determines teacher schedules for assigned area and conducts monthly departmental meetings.
    • Implements student policies through pupil, parent and staff conferences.
    • In conjunction with the principal, provides support for all building safety functions.
    • Attends community meetings.
    • Participates in faculty and staff evaluation process as per the negotiated APPR agreement.
    • Performs related duties as assigned by principal.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATION:
    • Master’s degree.
    • Five (5) years of appropriate teaching and/or administrative experience.
    • New York State Certification for School Administrator and Supervisor or School District Administrator.
    • Background and experience in instructional program design and implementation.
    • Experience involving community contact.
