Responsible for the recruitment and training of treatment foster care parents for the TFCO model with the assistance of the Team Leader.

Regular working hours are 37.5 hours, Monday through Friday between 9:00-5:00, however, some evening hours may be required depended upon TFCO program needs. The TFCO Recruiter must be able to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends.

Specific Responsibilities:

1) Recruit, training and retain treatment foster parents within the TFCO program.

2) Complete DCWAL training for Licensing Specialist within 90 days and attend ongoing training as required.

3) Maintains good working relationship with therapeutic parents and TFCO staff.

4) Participate in marketing for therapeutic parents; includes advertising, prepares and places recruitment ads.

5) Works with TFCO Coordinator to anticipate therapeutic parent recruitment needs.

6) Trains and facilitates the certification process of therapeutic parents for DCWAL.

7) Complete application process and submit home studies to DCWAL for licensing therapeutic homes.

8) Completes annual assessments and special investigations according to DCWAL rules for therapeutic parents.

9) Serves as a resource to therapeutic families, listens to needs and maintains motivation and treatment participation of therapeutic parents.

10) Conducts ongoing telephone interviews with therapeutic parents 5 days a week.

11) Assist in the collection and coordination with TFCO Coordinator weekly.

12) Participates in weekly therapeutic parent meetings.

13) Attends weekly clinical meetings with TFCO staffing team.

14) Provides on-call assistance when needed.

15) Complete 24 hours annually of child specific training.

16) Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a mental health-related field.
  • Three years of experience in the examination, evaluation, and treatment of minors and their families; or a Master’s Degree in a mental health-related field with one year of experience in the examination, evaluation and treatment of minors and their families. Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in community organizing and/or advocating on behalf of youth and families is required. Must meet Michigan Department of Health and Human Services requirements for a Child Mental Health Professional credential within 120 days of hire. Qualified candidates will have a familiarity with therapeutic parenting, preferably in a therapeutic home setting.
  • A nonjudgmental approach that reflects cultural competency and sensitivity to the unique needs and diverse experiences of individual served. Candidate will have the ability to engage and maintain positive relationships with youth and their family members; as well as develop collaborative relationships with community stakeholders. Candidate must have the ability to lead others and work cooperatively with a team.
  • Must be committed to the implementation and fidelity of the TFCO model. Effective interpersonal communication skills; a willingness to be helpful, flexible, patient, and creative; and the ability to remain calm during crisis situations are required. Candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience in teaching, training or instructional presentations also preferred.
  • Detail oriented and have computer skills including utilization of Internet, MS Word, Excel and Publisher.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record and the ability to obtain a chauffer’s license within 60 days of hire.
