Sylmar Health and Rehabilitation Center is now accepting applications for a full-time Forensic Postdoctoral Evaluator position with our new competency restoration program. This program will exclusively treat people who have been committed to PC 1370 Incompetent to Stand Trial and are court-ordered to receive competency restoration treatment. Primary responsibilities of this position include completing court-ordered forensic assessments such as competency to stand trial evaluations; writing court reports and testifying as needed; providing individual and group competency restoration training; and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team regarding patients’ progress. Supervision is provided, and formal training opportunities include attendance to various CONREP trainings. Preference will be given to those familiar with forensic populations and experience in report writing. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Completing court-ordered forensic assessments such as competency to stand trial evaluations
• Administering various psychological assessments related to identifying patients’ barriers to competency
• Writing court reports in a timely manner and testifying in court as needed
• Identifying assigned patients’ barriers to competency and individualizing their treatment accordingly
• Facilitating individual and group competency training sessions
• Documenting all clinical contacts
• Any other duties as assigned by Clinical / Program Director
• This position will require you to work primarily on site at Sylmar Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Job Qualifications

• PhD or PsyD in clinical and/or forensic psychology
• Experience with a mentally ill population (+1 yr preferred) and report writing
• Work with severe mental illness, co-occurring disorders and forensic populations preferred
• Bilingual ability preferred
