Job Title: Food Service Supervisor

Job Summary:

Manages and ensures proper supervision of all aspects of food production including menu planning and food preparation in the department. Ensure high quality service to patient, visitor and staff.


Essential Job Duties:

  • Serves as a working Supervisor coordinating activities of workers or service employees engaged in food operations.
  • Ensures a safe working environment throughout the department for all staff.
  • Manages the department to ensure safe food handling procedures for preparation, cooking, holding, storage and sanitizing of all food items and assists in the monitoring of HACCP. Takes corrective action as needed.
  • Responsible for monitoring employee productivity and providing suggestions for improvement.
  • Supervision of day-to-day activities of subordinates and assigns responsibility for specific work or functional activities.
  • Assists Food Service Director in hiring and retention of employees by participating in interviews and providing input in the selection process of new hires.
  • Orients and trains employees.
  • Performs weekly food and sanitation safety audits to ensure staff compliance.
  • Ensures proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures are followed by staff.
  • Works with customers to ensure satisfaction in such areas as quality, service, and problem resolution.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Education/Experience:

  • High school graduate or Bachelor’s degree
  • Prefer at least 1 to 2 years of current experience in an acute care setting

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Serv-safe certified required, Certified Dietary Manager Preferred

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical information, and to be easily understood through verbal communication in the English language. Must be able to prepare documentation in a manner that conforms to prescribed style and format, and to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Bilingual skills (Spanish) preferred.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to perform upper level mathematical operations, including algebra and geometry, frequent distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee is regularly required to lift, push and/or pull weights in excess of 10 pounds. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds, with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
