Fleet Operations Manager


Independence Excavating is looking for an experienced Fleet Manager in our Independence, OH headquarters. In this role, the Fleet Manager will be responsible for procurement, life cycle management, ongoing preventive maintenance, sale of, monitoring and tracking of company vehicle inventory, including fuel usage and mileage while developing strategies to increase utilization & efficiency of company fleet.

A typical day looks like:

  • Planning, managing, coordinating and supervising the programs for purchasing, assignment, utilization, maintenance, replacement and disposal of fleet vehicles
  • Will oversee and manage all company owned vehicles
  • Generating reports on fleet performance and develop suggestions for senior management
  • Understanding of all fleet incentive programs offered by major automotive manufacturers
  • Maximizing purchasing discounts and potential rebates above and beyond initial discount structure
  • Forecasting vehicle needs ensuring orders are placed on time to maintain fleet diversity and depth
  • Build strong partnerships with dealerships
  • Collaborate with internal operational teams to determine options and solutions
  • Developing a sales program to efficiently dispose of vehicles while maximizing financial benefit
  • Participating in accident investigation working in conjunction with risk/insurance to evaluate repair
  • Responsibility for full P&L over company’s maintenance operations
  • Supervising the audit activities of the fleet and communicate results to appropriate management accurately and timely – vehicle inventory, titles, registrations, annual DOT & ANSI inspections & insurance cards
  • Managing fleet maintenance activities to ensure business objects are met on time, with maximum accuracy and quality and within budget
  • Input and initiate vehicle quotes and orders
  • Reviewing and approving invoices
  • Traveling as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Do you have what it takes?

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Proven work experience as a Fleet Manager or similar role, Fleet Management experience out of Construction is preferred
  • Dealership Sales experience preferred but not required
  • Must facilitate and ensure good communication between various areas of the company (shop, field, office, etc.) and keep all necessary parties aware of objectives, changes, personnel updates, etc.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally with employees, external vendors and general contractors
  • Must develop positive working relationships with all levels of employees and a variety of outside contacts
  • Must be able to discuss technical aspects of job effectively
  • Must have strong organizational skills in order to handle the variety of tasks
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and data management
  • Position functions in the office primarily and the field when necessary
