Why does the job exist?

The Financial Specialist, AO - Advanced will:

  • Assist the bureau with administrative functions;
  • Monitor and reconcile assigned non-Major fund and CMT.

How does it get done?

The Financial Specialist, AO - Advanced is responsible for:

  • Reviewing and analyzing financial information for cash, balance sheet, expenditures and revenues;
  • Processing daily program files;
  • Reviewing, processing and approving client reimbursement requests (CMT);
  • Completing and reviewing monthly bank reconciliations;
  • Maintaining and monitoring financial files, prepare adjusting entries as needed;
  • Working and communicating effectively verbally and written with other bureaus, divisions within the agency as well as external customers;
  • Meeting deadlines set by Human Services Department (HSD), Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) and State Treasurer Office (STO).

Ideal Candidate

The Ideal Candidate has experience:

  • Multitasking;
  • Working with Microsoft Excel and Word;
  • Maintaining accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Communicating effectively verbally and written;
  • Understanding State and Federal policies.

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or Equivalency and two (2) years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting and/or finance. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Working Conditions

State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
