Description

Where the Chemistry Happens

We are seeking a professional like you to be responsible for driving the accounting and reporting activities associated with BASF’s catalysts, coatings, monomers, and performance materials operating divisions in the U.S.. At times this role would also assist in providing accounting expertise for acquisitions, divestitures, legal entity consolidations, or other unique transactions.

Reporting directly to the Financial Reporting Manager, you will ensure that significant accounting issues are appropriately identified, evaluated, steered, and communicated to local management and to the corporate center. This includes supporting the overall group audit as well as applicable statutory audits, as required. You will frequently engage with multiple stakeholders to ensure topics and business transactions are adequately addressed from an accounting perspective. You will also provide expertise and financial reporting guidance as it relates to application of BASF Group Guidelines and IFRS.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to demonstrate your negotiation, mediation, and conflict management skills, as well as your strong sense of accountability. You will also get to share your ability to manage ambiguity and influence others (with and without being in a position of authority).

As a Financial Reporting Specialist you create chemistry by…

  • Leveraging your education in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business Administration and your experience in operational and/or financial accounting roles, you will provide expertise in specific topics of significant financial statement impact associated with scope coverage (rebates, market investments, swaps and exchanges, contracts, precious metals, revenue recognition, BU specific provision valuations, etc.).
  • Providing accounting expertise at times for acquisitions, divestitures, legal entity consolidations, or other unique transactions.
  • Capitalizing on your accounting operations, research, and financial reporting experience, you will support BU compliance activities and maintain awareness with respect to changing business conditions and/or structural changes having significant financial statement impacts.
  • Your ability to interpret and act on data insights will be critical in driving the resolution of internal/external audit topics and for providing guidance to implement Financial Reporting Controls solutions.
  • Demonstrating your financial acumen, verbal and written communication skills, and data orientation, you will ensure topics are addressed in a timely and satisfactory manner to ensure the overall quality of BASF’s financial reporting.
  • Successfully engaging across the organization, you will build and maintain relationships throughout the organization, embrace change and foster a One Team culture. You should be comfortable making decisions independently where appropriate.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Your formula for success…

  • Bachelor’s degree in either Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business Administration. CPA and/or MBA a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in operational and/or financial accounting roles.
