The Student Accounting Office provides high financial services to students, faculty, staff, administration, and management in accordance with procedures and practices established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Comptroller of the Commonwealth, National Association of Colleges, and Universities Business Offices (NACUBO), Governmental Accounting Standard Board (GASB), Virginia Community College System (VCCS) and the Local College Board.

Provides professional financial, analytical, and technical expertise in the financial management of state, federal, local, and private financial aid programs. Responsible for the analysis and interpretation of legislation as it relates to federally, state, and privately funded educational aid and reconciles each educational aid program. Generates complex reports using existing software and queries from ERP systems. Provides supervision of other departmental staff. Position will support Virginia Peninsula Community College.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required
  • B.S. in Accounting/Business Administration with a concentration in accounting or equivalent related training and experience.
  • Proficient with automated accounting systems and performing detailed work with numerical and statistical data.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of and experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting policies and procedures.
  • Experience using electronic systems to record and reconcile information in various systems. ยท
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in critical thinking and problem solving within a work environment.

Knowledge
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and the ability to interpret and implement federal, state, local, VCCS and VPCC policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Knowledge and experience in preparing financial statements and reports.
  • Knowledge and experience in reconciling complex accounting records.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with current accounting computerized software applications.

Skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities effectively.

Ability
  • Must have the ability to prioritize work in a multitasking environment, manage time, and be adaptable to changing needs and frequent interruptions.
  • Proficient with automated accounting systems and computer applications (to include Microsoft Suite) with advanced skill in spreadsheet software.
  • Proficient in critical thinking.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in fund accounting in a higher education environment.
