REPORTS TO: Deputy Treasurer/Water Supervisor but may receive direction from Deputy Finance Director.
SUMMARY OF FUNCTION
Receives and processes payment for City services including, but not limited to, tax payments, water services,
permit and license fees, departmental revenues and Federal and State entitlements from mail, city residents, and
other persons or entities doing business with the City. Records and reconciles monies received using PC
applications and /or computerized cash receipting systems. Provide proactive customer service to residents and
others, in person and by telephone. Answer inquiries, analyze problems and develop solutions.
ESSENTIAL TASKS
- Responds to telephone and in-person inquiries providing proactive responses and problem-solving
- Operates ten or twelve-key calculator, personal computer, copier and other office equipment.
- Reconciles and balances daily total receipts to cash register journals and documentation. Reports same to
- Processes transactions through computerized cash receipting system, issuing necessary receipts and /or
- Prepares reports of daily, weekly, and monthly receipts as well as other informational reports using
- Calculate, prepare, and issue bills, billing registers, invoices (including tax and water bills), account
- Sorts and processes mail.
- Obtains authorized signatures and distributes account payable.
SUPPLEMENTAL TASKS
- Corresponds with banks regarding deposit corrections, NSF returns, stop payments and other concerns.
- Files and stores office documents and records, scanning documents as needed.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Diploma from an accredited high school including or supplemented by courses in accounting, bookkeeping
- Associates degree in accounting desirable.
- Two to three years' experience as a cashier and in financial recordkeeping.
- Ability to work pleasantly, helpfully and effectively with the public and with other employees.
- Ability to type 40 wpm: equivalent speed on an electronic calculator.
- Ability to assemble data and prepare accurate records and reports.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to make mathematical computations quickly and accurately.
SALARY RANGE - This is a full-time position in a unionized environment with an hourly rate of
$18.5914 - $22.3205.
