Summary of Duties:

The Finance/Budget Manager serves as the principal fiscal advisor and provides comprehensive financial and administrative management for the Department of Entomology. Managing and administering the accounting information systems functions; ensuring compliance with university, state and federal regulations; providing analysis and reports used to track financial and academic resources and outcomes; and establishing rates and determining cost-effective methods of conducting business.

Provides management and administrative oversight for personnel issues for the Department. Responsibility for overall management and leadership of Department's day-to-day operations and financial services. Responsible for fiscal and budgetary management, oversight of facilities and resource management, coordination of contracts and grants, service centers, and implementation of operational policies and procedures. Use independent judgement to analyze problems and implement solutions. The success of this position depends upon the finance, budget, and management skills of the incumbent, the ability to accomplish work through account analysis, reconciliation, and balance maintenance, and the ability to delegate duties, responsibility, and authority to others.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related field, and four (4) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with spreadsheet, database, word processing, e-mail, and calendaring software.
  • Experience with budget, personnel, and management of financial resources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with preparing financial reports

Preferred Qualifications:
  • More than 2 years of fiscal experience in an academic department in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with WSU systems
  • Experience with the Workday system.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience using computerized accounting information systems and/or applications software.
  • Demonstrated effective managerial experience.

Monthly Salary:

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range.
