Purpose:

The Field Service Technician is to perform customer site visits as needed, direct installation and commissioning, instruct operators on function of equipment, instruct operators and supervisors on safe practices, and review customer manuals with Production and Maintenance. Training relevant personnel will be a requirement after equipment installation. The Field Service Technician will assist and aid Engineering and Sales in connection with company line of equipment. Submit reports in connection with the installation of new equipment and troubleshooting calls. Assist in machine assembly, production, and equipment rebuilds when not handling service calls.

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Percent of Time Spent:

Direct, inspect, and perform equipment installation, supervise equipment start up. 40%

Travel to perform service calls to diagnose, troubleshoot, and make repairs such as adjustments, parts replacements. Components may be electrical, mechanical, or utility related such as steam or glycol chillers. 25%

Field inbound service calls in a remote capacity when not at customer sites. 15%

Work with Sales, Engineering, or Manufacturing regarding field service requests. Advise of service problems that indicate design or manufacturing deficiencies and the like. 10%

Assemble, rebuild, refurbish, and assist in machine production when not at customer sites. 10%

Throughout all responsibilities customer interaction is present and promoting good customer relations will be a top priority.

Occasional Responsibilities:

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience:

Two years technical school or equivalent industry experience. Engineering degree is a plus.

Minimum five years’ experience in field service. A strong background working with and troubleshooting industrial control equipment in the food industry. Ability to read electrical, mechanical, and piping schematics. Steam utilization experience is a plus.

Scope of Responsibility/Accountability:

Explain the degree of supervision/guidance, procedures/ processes used, judgement, creativity, planning & resourcefulness needed to do the job.

During initial training or training on products assigned, supervision will be made by direct or indirect involvement of other trained personnel. Training will take place at both DC Norris Facilities, located in the US and the UK. Guidance for Start-up and troubleshooting techniques will be provided by other trained personnel. As competency levels increase, the Operations Director will decrease the supervision and guidance of others. Ultimately this position requires minimal direct supervision. Judgement, planning and resourcefulness are required to high degree after training.

This position is considered safety sensitive, due to the fact that it will require work and interaction with employees in a manufacturing/production environment.

Supervisory Responsibility: May have occasional indirect reports such as Road Crew or Contractors on site. This could vary from one to six people for installation and re-building of equipment.

Financial Responsibility: N/A

Work Environment: Majority of work will be confined to factory type environment. Working conditions are as those found in process plants were cooking equipment is in use. Travel is required for this position and not restricted to the North America Region.

Physical Demands: Physical demands as would be found in factory work. Heavy lifting is not routinely required. Maneuvering around new construction sites and factory sites consisting of multiple stories is routine.
