Farmers Market Sales Associate

Pay: $16 an hour plus tips (estimated at $4-6/hour)

Job Type: Part-time with option for full-time (benefits start at 35 hours/week)

About the Company:

Pegasus Pie Co is growing up and we are opening a commercial kitchen and retail space in downtown Mount Vernon! Specializing in gourmet pies, we use the highest quality ingredients and source local as much as possible. In addition to the new retail location, we have a presence at several farmers markets in the Puget Sound region.

Job Description:

The Farmers Market Sales Associate will be the face of Pegasus Pie Co. You’ll get to enjoy being outside and interacting with other vendors and market-goers, while manning the booth and selling pies!

A good fit for this role will enjoy chatting and engaging with customers. You’ll be prepared to answer questions about our pies and be as helpful as you can. You’ll take note of customer requests and comments and provide this feedback to our baker so we can continue to provide what the public craves.

No specific experience is required, we will provide all relevant training.

There are openings to work a Friday 3-7PM market in Seattle, the Anacortes Farmers Market on Saturdays from 9AM-2PM, and the Bellingham Farmers Market on Saturdays from 10AM-2PM.

Additional hours are available if you would like to turn this into a full time position. We are also looking for sales associates for the retail location, and bakers or assistant bakers.

Job Responsibilities:

• Meet at the Mount Vernon location to pick up the market vehicle and baked goods plus the booth setup.
• Drive the company vehicle to the market location.
• Set up the booth. This includes unloading at the booth location, parking the car in designated vendor areas, walking back to the market, setting up all gear, and arranging the baked goods in a display.
• Maintaining a friendly and open demeanor for the 4-5 hour market and engage with customers to help them make purchases.
• Record all sales and execute the sales transaction (credit card, Apple Pay, cash, etc.)
• At market close, record all sales for the day, calculate and submit the daily market fee to market management.
• Break down the booth, bring the vehicle back around, and load up all gear.
• Return to Mount Vernon location and unload.

Job Requirements:

• Reliability and punctuality is key. Life happens, and sometimes you’ll have to cancel – we simply ask for as much notice as possible so alternative arrangements can be made.
• You are able to handle physical work. You’ll spend a significant amount of time on your feet and will be carrying sometimes heavy and bulky items. You should be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• You are comfortable handling sales transactions, including handling cash, a phone/tablet, and credit card reader.
• You have strong customer service. Our preference is for a low-pressure sales situation. You should be friendly and engaged, but not pushy.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English.
• You have the ability to work weekends and specific days of the week, depending on farmers market season.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• You have a WA food handler’s permit (or are willing to obtain one).
• Clean driving record.

Pay and Benefits:

$16 an hour plus tips. Tips are paid out of a company wide tip pool.

We offer merit and length of service based pay raises, as well as periodic cost of living adjustments. We do plan to offer health insurance to full time (35+ hours/week) employees.
