Appetite For Change (AFC) is a nonprofit social enterprise in North Minneapolis whose mission is to use food as a tool to build health, wealth and social change. Appetite For Change envisions sustainable, equitable, local food systems, created and led by thriving, socially connected families and communities.

We are seeking a Farmers Market Manager for the West Broadway Farmers Market (WBFM). The Manager is responsible for managing the seasonal (June through October) weekly Farmers market, to include all aspects of planning, licensure, contracts, budgets and financials, reporting, staffing, community outreach marketing and communications, vendor selection and management, including set-up and break-down of each event.

The Market hosts local musicians, cooking demonstrations, and celebrations of the nearby neighborhoods’ exciting cultural diversity. WBFM runs Friday afternoons from 3-7 pm with over 20 vendors and 50 community partners.

This is a part time position, working 25-30 hours a week requiring occasional evenings and weekends. .

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop annual Farmers Market strategic plan: vendor selection, site logistics, community education, staff training, community outreach and partner organizations.
  • Assist with budgeting, managing invoices, financial records, billing and payments
  • Assist with managing the WBFM budget by tracking income and expenses
  • Set strategy for, create and update WBFM web page, effective email communications, social media, and PR/marketing, including WBFM Newsletter, press releases, and advertisement

Market Administration and Programs

  • Oversee Farmers Market initiatives: EBT program, Fruit & Veggie RX, Voucher Programs, etc.
  • Promote the Market using various promotional and communication strategies
  • Manage special events, EBT acceptance, and equipment maintenance.
  • Participate in the planning, review and evaluation of all educational and interactive market programs and events
  • Manage the vendor application and onboarding process
  • Assist in setting operating days and hours, overall standards, vendor fees, etc.
  • Maintain and manage WBFM records.
  • Research and compare other markets’ events, activities, themes, application processes and other states’ legislation around farmers markets.
  • Participate in the farmers market community in MN.
  • Assist Urban Ag farm sites with planting, maintaining and harvesting the food throughout the growing season and off season to prepare for sale.

Market Site Management

  • Work with the Director of Programs to plan and oversee market day events.
  • Apply for City of Minneapolis permit, complete contracts applications (e.g., Hunger Solutions, MN Department of Agriculture) and complete location site MOU/Rental Agreement.
  • Perform on site management
  • Seek out Market sponsors and serve as point person for the sponsors.
  • Perform on-site supervision
  • Help set up and tear down the AFC booth with volunteers and staff.
  • Troubleshoot WBFM problems and manage incidental unplanned issues onsite and in the office.
  • Enforce WBFM’s rules, being an expert on and complying with all related city, state and federal regulations.
  • Respond to vendor and customer complaints during and following events. .

Leadership, Management and Accountability

  • Recruit, select and train volunteers.
  • Lead, manage, supervise and motivate direct reports and other staff and volunteers
  • Provide direction and coaching to support individual and team success
  • Direct any corrective measures if there are performance or other issues to the Director of Programs

Job Requirements include:

Desired Education and Experience

  • Two or more years of work experience in farmers markets
  • Experience in urban ag and/or farming preferred
  • One or more years of experience managing staff and volunteers

HIRING RANGE:

$24-28 per hour - DOQ
