Position Summary:

The Family Peer Support provides direct caregiver-to-caregiver services to the families of the residents being treated in the facility based upon their previous personal experiences. The incumbent shall be responsible for performing a variety of tasks to assist families in managing their child’s illness and fostering resiliency and hope. These services may include, but are not limited to, support development (formal/informal), creation of family and individual goals, and aiding in the resolution of difficult family issues as an advocate and/or mentor. S/he may also educate the family on navigating the system and providing the necessary skills to maintain a child with emotional or behavioral disorders in the home environment.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have personal experience navigating the system with a child diagnosed with either a mental, emotional or behavioral disorders ( preferably the experience shall be with a child upon the autism spectrum ). Must possess a High School Diploma, ( Bachelor's prepared candidate preferred ), with a passion for helping others.

Definition(s) of Personal Experience:

o Candidate is able to self-identify as being or having been the caregiver/family member of a child with a mental, emotional and/or behavioral disorder.

o Candidate has personally navigated the child serves systems as the self-identified caregiver/family member of a child with a mental, emotional and/or behavioral disorder (preferably with a child upon the autism spectrum).

o Candidate has actively participated for at least twelve consecutive months, at any time during the past three years, in service planning, system navigation, and building resiliency for a child.
