Overview:
Full or Part-Time

The Family Partner is part of BAMSI's Community Service Agency (CSA). This position requires the ability to manage complex and competing demands in the office and in the field on a daily basis and provides daily support and advocacy to parents and caregivers (up to 18 families), in a fast pace and changing environment ensuring the families' voice is heard. The Family Partner acts as a role model for parents and caregivers in interacting with community providers and agencies.

The Community Service Agency (CSA) of the Brockton Area is designed to support families of children with serious emotional disturbance (SED) and assist them to gain a sense of competency in parenting a youth with serious emotional challenges. The CSA seeks to reduce the use of inpatient services and long-term residential care, as well as involvement with the juvenile justice system.

Must have experience as a parent/caregiver of a youth with special needs, and preferably a youth with mental health needs
. A valid driver's license in state of residence and own means of transportation is required.
Must meet one of the following criteria:
  • High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 2 years experience working with children/adolescents/transition age youth.
  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in a human servcie field and 1 year of experience working with children/adolescents/transition age youth.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides guidance, coaching, training, support, education, and advocacy to Parent/Caregiver with regard to interacting with their child and networking with community resources and treatment providers to meet youth’s needs.
    2. Assists Parent/Caregiver in articulating Youth’s strengths, needs and goals for Intensive Care Coordination (ICC) to the Care Coordinator and Care Planning Team.
    3. Engages the Parent/Caregiver in activities in the home and community that are designed to address one or more goals on the Youth’s Individual Care Plan.
    4. Assists Parents/Caregivers in recognizing the importance of self-care as a vital component of their parenting and helping them connect with support in the area of self-care as well as support in the form of individual, peer/parent support and self-help groups.
    5. Attends meetings (Individualized Educational Plan (IEP), hospital discharge, treatment team and other meetings) with families as needed and assists families and team members with discharge/transition planning.
    6. Participates in care planning team (CPT) and may facilitate meetings as needed.
    7. Conducts a minimum of weekly face-to-face home visits with Parent/Caregiver and provides regular, on-going telephone support to Parent/Caregiver.
    8. Provides transportation to families as needed.
    9. Maintains professional boundaries at all times.
    10. Attends and actively participates in weekly supervision with Senior Family Partner, weekly supervision with a licensed clinician, and group supervision to review families’ progress, identify risk factors, improve communication and work on professional growth.
    11. Completes daily progress notes, treatment goals and other required documentation in a timely manner, adhering to the highest professional standards.
Qualifications:
  • Must have experience as a parent/caregiver of a Youth with special needs, and preferably a Youth with mental health needs;
  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an accredited university and one (1) year of experience working with the target population; or
  • Associate’s degree in a human service field from an accredited school and one (1) year of experience working with Children/adolescents/transition age Youth; or
  • High school diploma or GED and a minimum of two (2) years of experience working with Children/adolescents/transition age Youth
  • Experience in navigating any of the child and family-serving systems
  • Ability to accept Families, Children and Youth unconditionally without judgment or blame for the problems they face.
  • Must possess excellent communication (written and verbal), organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Must have knowledge of community resources in designated work area and awareness of culturally relevant services .
  • Must be flexible and able to respond to Families under stress and in crisis.
  • Must possess a current and valid driver’s license and automobile.
