Family Advocate - Queensbury, NY

POSITION SUMMARY

This position will function as a member of the Mobile Crisis Services, assisting the clinicians on Mobile visits by providing support and advocacy for family members of the child or adolescent in crisis. This position will also act as a resource to the clinicians and case manager, through sharing their knowledge of common challenges families have diagnosed with a mental health diagnosis and/or other identified disabilities and sharing knowledge about communities resources.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Respond to on site crisis calls with clinicians to assist with crisis planning and stabilization. Assist with follow-up calls to families as directed by the clinician on the criss call and/or triage.
  • Collaborate with service providers involved with the children/adolescents and their families Provide information and peer to peer support to families who are served by the program
  • Educate and empower families regarding their roles in developing crisis plans and crisis prevention with their children/adolescents.
  • Ensure families are satisfied with the services they are receiving and, if not, help them advocate for what they need and how to advocate.
  • Serve as a liaison to other local supports in the community.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one to two years experience

CERTIFICATION and/or LICENSURE

  • Family Advocate Certification is preferred at time of hire; otherwise, incumbent for this role will work towards certification.
