This position is responsible for planning, implementing, and coordinating all functions at the Fairgrounds facilities and grounds, including the annual County Fair & Rodeo. Manages the Fairgrounds Supervisor, Maintenance Technicians, Event Coordinators, and Administration staff.

Generally, the hiring range is $82,247-$102,808 annually. Qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position will be taken into consideration when determining hiring salary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.)

  • Establish and maintain strong staff, event holders, Fair Board, and community partner relations to ensure event specifications are communicated and executed for a successful user and patron experience. Ensures policies and procedures are followed, implemented, and administered effectively.
  • Coordinates projects and maintenance and conducts facility inspections.
  • Work directly with vendors for the provision of services and development of contracts. Review and approve contracts for Fairgrounds events, Fair and department purchases, and expenditures.
  • Manage and provide training and leadership for Fairgrounds and Fair Staff, including annual evaluation. Recommends hiring, promotion, and disciplinary actions for Fairgrounds and Fair Staff. Coordinate ongoing education programs for Fairgrounds and Fair Staff. Provides instructions and guidance, prepares work schedules, and approves time off requests and timesheets.
  • Oversees and provides direction to Fair Board and volunteers. Attends Fair Board Committee meetings and Fair Board meetings monthly.
  • Work directly with the FFESS Director & Business Services Operations Manager to develop the annual Fairgrounds and Fair operation budgets and long-term facility and ground forecasting and improvements.
  • Remains on-call during non-working hours for any issues related to the Fairgrounds, including Event Holder concerns and emergencies, County evacuation, or shelter preparation (weather, road closures, fire). Assist during emergencies for animal sheltering and/or coordination in the EOC.
  • Directs the resolution of inquiries, complaints, problems, or emergencies affecting the availability or quality of services. Responds to sensitive or complex inquiries or service complaints.
  • Perform various administrative functions including but not limited to writing contracts, memos, and agendas, use of electronic databases, Microsoft Office applications, and other software programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the supervision of the Facilities, Fleet, and Emergency Support Services (FFESS) Director.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Has direct supervisory responsibilities over the Fairgrounds Maint. Supervisor, Event Coordinators, and the Fairgrounds Admin. Support Specialist. Interviews, hires, and trains staff. Provides feedback and direction and makes recommendations for termination when appropriate.

INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and is held accountable to implement policies, accomplish established goals and objectives, and supervise employees.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with major coursework in event management, business administration, marketing, public relations, or a related field is required.
  • Four (4) years experience in event management and/or marketing or closely related experience is required.
  • Two (2) years management or supervisor experience required.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Strong knowledge of event management, facility management, customer relations management, business administration, and financial management.
  • Ability to provide effective leadership of diverse teams.

  • Excellent leadership, business development, and facility management skills supporting a collaborative team providing customers with "exceptional experiences" while efficiently and effectively operating a public facility.
  • Identifies opportunities and takes action to build strategic relationships within the assigned team, with other County Departments, and with outside organizations to achieve business goals quickly.
  • Excellent customer service skills with an emphasis on effective written and verbal communication. Strong focus on meeting the client's needs.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License upon hire, with complying insurance. A motor vehicle record review is required at the time of hire and periodically throughout employment.
  • Additionally, this position requires the successful completion of a criminal background check, including fingerprinting through a national database.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:


Physical Work Environment
: Work is generally performed in a typical office environment. Occasionally works outdoors in various weather conditions. Works generally Monday through Friday but is also required to work in support of events and meetings as they are scheduled, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. May have contact (direct and indirect) with animals and livestock in an environment that exists for the animal's care and event management. Has frequent, in-person contact with coworkers, event holders, the general public, and occasionally contractors and other support staff. This position requires the incumbent to remain available via a mobile cellular device/email access during and after normally scheduled business hours.


Physical Demands
: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is consistently required to sit and frequently stand and walk, talk, use hands and fingers, handle, feel or operate objects and perform repetitive motions. Occasionally the employee may be required to perform physical labor. Also requires lifting, bending, squatting, standing, reaching, climbing, kneeling, stooping, and crawling to assist with set up and/or take down before, during, and after an event, including the County Fair & Rodeo.


Material and Equipment Directly Used:
Standard office equipment (computer, telephone, copier, printer), climbing a ladder, golf car or gator, and motor vehicle.
