Job description

Geneva College invites applications for a part-time faculty member in the Department of Communication. The position begins August 28, 2023, and will remain open, until filled. Minority and female applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

JOB SUMMARY:

The temporary position is for the fall 2023 semester, beginning August 28, 2023. The selected candidate will teach Principles of Communication (COM 101), a 3-credit core course in Fall 2023 semester.

COM 101 Principles of Communication Course

Course Description: A preliminary inquiry into the fundamental areas of study in the communication discipline including interpersonal, group, and public speech. Emphasis placed on the development of sensitivity and competency in the various settings of oral communication.

Course Objectives include:

  • Identifying the primary questions for the study of communication
  • Understand the relationship between personal, professional and public life
  • Understanding the impact of technology on patterns of human communication
  • Demonstrating facility with the elements of public speaking and persuasion
  • Articulating the primary questions for the study of communication

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: (These primary responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)

General Responsibilities:

  • Teach assigned contact hours per semester.
  • Adequately prepare all course materials and lessons (Note: preparation time will vary based on instructor experience in teaching that course)
  • Provide each student with clear course expectations, evaluations, and timelines through carefully written topical outlines and approved syllabus per faculty established guidelines
  • Provide interesting and relevant assignments for students that demonstrate learning outcomes in a real-life setting
  • Suitably challenge, engage, support, and communicate with students to encourage their participation and learning while maintaining mutual value and respect
  • Provide timely grades to students through college software and upload mid-term and final grades by college deadlines.
  • Respond to student questions on a timely basis
  • Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus
