POSITION SUMMARY


The Facility Maintenance Worker is under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager, and the indirect supervision of the Director of Facilities. The Facilities Maintenance Worker is responsible for janitorial, general maintenance, and safety/infection control services to the Tribal office building and grounds.


The employee must be willing to receive training in cooling/heating systems, appropriate disposal of materials, recycling, etc. from CRIHB, the BIA and other appropriate courses.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Develop and accomplish a schedule for cleaning the Tribal Administration Building, Community Center, and gym on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis depending upon requirements.
  • Establish a maintenance schedule for repair or replacement of minor damage, sidewalk, decks, window screens, painting, etc.
  • On a regular basis, ensure that all carpets, flooring, waiting area and conference rooms are cleaned and disinfected.
  • Maintain the cooling and heating systems by cleaning and replacing filters on a regular basis.
  • Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and bathroom supplies, including toilet paper, paper towels, seat covers, air cleaners, etc.
  • Clean kitchen appliances, such as microwaves, refrigerators, stoves, sinks and tables.
  • Sets timing for automatic sprinkler system, assuring lawns and gardens are adequately watered.
  • Develop and maintain a process for the recycling of debris to decrease disposal costs.
  • Provide set up and cleanup for all meetings and special events.
  • Performs related work as required and as directed by the Facilities Manager.

SAFETY


  • Supports a safe work environment by performing all duties in accordance with Tribal safety policies and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to: reporting all incidents and accidents to your supervisor timely (within 24 hours); maintaining work areas in a safe and healthful manner; reporting and correcting any unsafe working conditions; operating vehicles in a safe and lawful manner while conducting Tribal business; providing input and assistance to reduce or eliminate workplace hazards; actively supporting ongoing safety efforts, including recommendations of the safety committee.
  • Due to the nature of interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be able to assume responsibility, have initiative, accept supervision, and follow instructions.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Ability to plan and work independently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with Tribal Officials, employees, and the general public.
  • If required to operate a Government Vehicle, must possess a valid CA Driver’s License and be insurable by the Tribes auto insurer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Knowledge and experience of janitorial and maintenance services in an office setting.

DRIVER’S LICENSE & INSURANCE REQUIREMENT


Must maintain a valid CA driver’s license or obtain one upon hire, qualify for the Tribe’s vehicle insurance, and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance.


DRUG SCREEN

Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians requires the successful completion of a drug screening of all potential Tribal employees prior to being hired. The Tribe recognizes that the State of California has legalized the use of marijuana. The Tribe is located on federally owned trust land and complies with federal laws. Therefore, marijuana use is prohibited, and all drug tests will include a screening for THC.


Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians recognizes a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy, and employees will be required to sign a Consent to Drug and/or Alcohol Testing. Employees may be selected for alcohol / drug testing upon reasonable suspicion, and upon any/all accidents.


BACKGROUND CHECK

Candidates for this position will be subject to criminal and character background checks and fingerprinting prior to being hired. Verification of previous employment and education will also be conducted after the interview if an offer of employment is being considered.

Preference in hiring is given to the most qualified applicant. However, when candidates for an open position are determined to be equally qualified, Native American candidates will have preference for hiring purposes. This means that if the qualifications of the best candidates are comparable, the Native American candidate is given preference. The following order of preference shall be adhered to when hiring: (1) Members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians members; (2) Spouses or domestic partners (certified through Tribal Court or the State of California) of members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; 3) Parents of children of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; 4) All other documented Native Americans; 5) All other applicants in accordance with Title 25, U.S. Code, Section 472 and 473. Applicants claiming Indian preference must submit verification of Indian eligibility.
