We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mockup Fabricator to join our Mockup and Prototype department. In this hands-on role, you will support the development of design concepts and mockups, testbeds, and prototypes of next-generation, design-forward spacecraft, and habitats. You will be required to maintain a safety-first mindset while setting up and executing mockups and prototypes. You will be responsible for independently fabricating and troubleshooting mockups and prototypes. The ideal candidate is fluent in multiple fabrication techniques, able to learn new ones appropriate to the fidelity required, and has a critical eye for details. The ability to turn conceptual designs into presentation-quality structures and spaces is critical. In addition, adapting to changing responsibilities is crucial in this role because of the demands of integrating a variety of mechanical systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Execute fabrication of mockups, testbeds, and prototypes
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their requirements, fidelity levels, and schedules and ensure the design and build will meet the targets.
  • Conduct build/flow development and trade studies to ensure the concepts can be manufactured within schedule and budget requirements.
  • Identify roadmaps to drive the development to completion.
  • Be scrappy and resourceful, finding creative solutions to problems even when resources are limited.
  • Work closely with other departments, such as engineering and manufacturing, to ensure that designs are feasible and can be produced at scale.
Qualifications:
  • Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space!
  • 3-5+ years’ experience in fabrication /production of mockups and prototypes
  • Demonstrated mechanical skills such as welding, milling, lathe, drilling, torquing, soldering, crimping, and tube flaring and bending
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, team members, and other departments.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, blueprints, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and wiring schematics,
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials.
  • Must be resourceful and able to find creative solutions to problems, even when resources are limited.
  • Proven record in a wide variety of hardware fabrication including but not limited to machining, welding, assembly, bonding/adhesives, composite fab, test support, critical lifts
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills with high attention to detail
  • Excellent judgment with demonstrated ability to recognize, report, and correct issues
  • Strong development background and experience working with limited instruction
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
