About the Department
The North Carolina Cooperative Extension Services 4-H/ Family Consumer Sciences (NCCES 4-H/FCS) team designs and delivers youth-focused programs for diverse audiences in North Carolina in support of the overall 4-H Cooperative Extension mission in North Carolina, to create helping relationships to enable youth to become responsible, productive citizens, through research, interdepartmental teaching leadership, and delivery of model experiential youth education programs.

Essential Job Duties
The successful candidate for this Extension Associate position will be responsible for leading youth adult engagement in the areas of STEM, Healthy Living, Curriculum Development, and Program Evaluation. The incumbent will plan, develop, implement, and evaluate the STEM programs to include the healthy living program, such that 4-H youth development professionals can conduct effective STEM programs in local communities. The incumbent will collaborate with Extension Specialists to provide quality and timely curriculum development that is age appropriate, evidence based, and appropriately vetted. The successful candidate will further develop evaluation processes and tools to assure North Carolina 4-H is effectively evaluating the impact of all programs at every level. The incumbent will also be expected to actively engage in the 4-H Youth Development Programs Core Team discussions and activities to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the overall program.

Other work responsibilities include:
  • Work closely with 4-H youth and youth development professionals at the state, local, regional, and national level to carry out the responsibilities of the position as listed below:
  • Work with Extension professionals to develop statewide 4-H STEM programs.
  • Provide grant management and budget oversight support for said programs.
  • Collect and analyze data for the purpose of program evaluation and enhancement.
  • Monitor county activities for adherence to scope of work and use of educational materials in support of local programs.
  • Communicate effectively with partners, collaborators, state, local and national youth development professionals.
  • Plan and manage events like trainings for county agents and educational events for youth where appropriate.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master’s Degree in Youth Development, Curriculum Development, Education, Program Development and/or Evaluation, or an equivalent degree in a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 3-years experience as a professional youth development educator, Extension 4-H agent, Specialist, or the equivalent.

Other Required Qualifications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to positive relationships and a culture of collegiality.
  • Ability to travel as needed, in support of the program and 4-H events.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in Cooperative Extension, at the agent/educator or Specialist level or 3-years of curriculum development/evaluation experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage youth programs, events, and activities that focus on life skill development.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team of professionals in fulfillment of program objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with peers, as well as with multiple/diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with the protocols required for curriculum adoption by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
