Over 9,500 employees working in 30 countries around the world are dedicated to servicing investment solutions for our clients in more than 155 countries. For more than 75 years our success has been a direct result of the talent, skills and persistence of our people, and we are looking for qualified candidates to join our team.
About the Opportunity
Our Franklin Equity Global Growth team is seeking a growth-oriented Research Analyst to join a high-performing team focused primarily on managing global and non-US separate accounts with over 12 billion USD in large cap assets under management. This person will report directly to the strategies lead Portfolio Manager.
What are the core responsibilities for this Research Analyst?
  • The current Franklin Equity Global Growth Team is composed of five sector-oriented research analysts and three generalist PM/research analysts. The five sector analysts are organized by key investment sectors: Cyclicals (Energy, Materials and Industrials), Financials, Healthcare and Technology (Technology and Communication Services).
  • The key role of a sector analyst is to identify and research names within their sector for inclusion in model portfolios. The key role of the generalist research analyst is to identify and research names across all sectors for inclusion in model portfolios. All nine research analysts report directly to the lead portfolio manager and all nine analysts participate in the team’s annual bonus pool using a transparent and uniform methodology tied to the performance of their recommendations in the various strategies. Each analyst is expected to cover and have portfolio representation of approximately 10 names.
  • The group runs three primary strategies, Global, EAFE and ACWI ex-US. Each strategy is concentrated (35 names each) and has a mid-cap growth orientation. Each strategy is longer term in nature with overall portfolio turnover of less than 30% and names usually held for four or more years in the strategy. The strategies are research driven with each analyst having a significant say over which names are held in the portfolio. As a result of a high degree of portfolio ownership by the analysts, we have had very low staff turnover among the team over the past 10 years. The current opening is for a generalist research analyst and is open as a result of a staff departure.
  • Research analysts with proven stock selection capabilities across multiple sectors can grow with this team towards Portfolio Management opportunities, assisting in the day-to-day management needs of one of the strategies and contributing to the investment decision-making process.
  • Added responsibilities include meeting with clients, prospects, and/or intermediaries to explain the investment philosophy, process, and performance of the specific investment products; and providing updates on overall financial market performance, economic trends, and the team’s investment outlook.
  • The individual will develop the skills needed to run higher risk, concentrated equity strategies with the potential growth towards assuming lead portfolio manager responsibilities for one of the team’s strategies.
  • Conduct research on securities and industries, as needed, to incorporate into portfolio purchase securities, across multiple sectors.
  • Develop fluency in portfolio construction process.
  • Act as a spokesperson for the team’s investment philosophy, process and strategy in support of winning new portfolio mandates.
What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?
  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years investment analyst research, preferably in support of non-US portfolios
  • Candidates with proven research skills across multiple sectors preferred.
  • Candidates from institutional long only equity platforms or hedge funds preferred.
  • BA or BS required, MBA and/or CFA preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in using fundamental research and modeling techniques to drive stock selection.
  • Intellectual persistence to tackle hard problems and develop insights from multiple angles.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical thinking skills.
  • Solid verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to articulate all facets of the investment process and strategy on behalf of investment team.
  • Effective relationship management skills and demonstrated credibility with investment team and distribution teams.
  • Ability to support business development and client retention efforts.
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative environment.
  • Work Location: New York City (On-Site)
Compensation Range: Along with base compensation, other compensation is offered such as a discretionary bonus, 401k plan, health insurance, and other perks. There are several factors taken into consideration in making compensation decisions including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. At Franklin Templeton, we apply a total reward philosophy where all aspects of compensation and benefits are taken into consideration in determining compensation. The salary, benefits and variable rewards will reflect the seniority of the position and a competitive market rate. We expect the annual salary for this position to range between $170,000 to $225,000, in addition to a competitive bonus.
