Job Description:

  • This Epidemiologist-1 position will support all efforts of the Comprehensive Suicide Prevention Program at the Tennessee Department of Health. This position will be held in the Injury Prevention and Detection section within the Division of Family Health and Wellness and will support all syndromic surveillance of suicidal behavior across the life span, analyze and present data on suicide, intentional self-harm, and suicidal ideation using death and hospitalization records. The incumbent also partners with other state and community-based agencies in the monitoring and evaluation of suicide prevention programs and provide expertise to health department physicians, medical professionals, and other departmental personnel.

Requirements include but not limited to the following:

  • Conducts syndromic surveillance activities and prepares routine reports based on the surveillance of suicidal behavior
  • Prepares and presents quarterly and annual reports for presentation at Suicide Prevention Partner Meetings and the Department of Health
  • Contributes to the Department’s effort to reduce deaths by suicide, intentional self-harm, and suicidal ideation
  • Attends and contributes to the regular meetings with local, state, and federal partners
  • Provides guidance on standards to stakeholders and advice to management or other groups on technical, systems, or process related topics.
  • Provide technical assistance to evaluation contractor(s) and develop/track program indicator measures
  • Applies basic statistical knowledge to data analyses; uses statistical software packages (e.g., SAS).
  • Conducts basic descriptive epidemiologic analyses and reports findings to supervisor.

Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
