What You'll Be Doing
The Wake County Environmental Services Division of Water Quality is currently seeking qualified applicants for an Environmental Consultant in the On-site Wastewater program. This position will conduct site, soil and/or well evaluations in accordance with NC laws and rules for sewage treatment and disposal systems - responds to new, existing, expansion and accessory structure applications in Wake County. The position requires good understanding of complex site evaluations, how different types of septic system are installed, and how the systems function once operation permit is issued. We are looking for individuals that will foster working relationships with customers, private sector consultants and the building community. This position will also perform seasonal swimming pool inspections, grave removal, and natural disaster shelter duties.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or related field
Three years of experience in environmental planning, inspections or engineering
Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
Equivalent education and experience are accepted
Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
North Carolina Licensed Soil Scientist (LSS)
3 Years of Experience working as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS)

Ability to prioritize, manage and coordinate multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment
Knowledge of design principles, laws and methods for development and installation of on-site waste disposal systems
Excellent ability to work with stakeholders on a project, both inside and outside the organization
Excellent listening skills to understand a customer perspective and provide services that meet expectations
Detail oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent techniques to complete work on projects that have multiple people and organizations involved
Strong computer skills to use word processing, spreadsheet, and some database functionality

Work Schedule: M-F 8:30-5:15

Hiring Range: $70,294.-$98,414
