The purpose of the Environmental Compliance Advisor is to provide clear direction, support, and oversight for selected EHS programs in alignment with overall company EHS strategy. Serve as SME (subject matter expert) for assigned EHS program areas providing guidance and support to GSK sites. Drive good EHS practices through development and implementation of standards, policies, and technical tools to maintain EHS compliance, drive continuous improvement and mitigate risk across the organization. Identify and track emerging EHS regulatory activities and develop strategic direction for stakeholder groups.

Your responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Ensure compliance with GSK EHS standards and requirements
  • Provide management monitoring for selected GSK legacy environmental remediation projects to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and drive the process to reduce risk and drive innovation
  • Drive EHS improvement through development of relationships across GSK business units to ensure common strategic performance and delivery
  • Act as SME for select environmental program areas
  • Coordinate with colleagues in Compliance and Quality to ensure robust, consistent, and effective approach to governance activities.
  • Technically support and implement the GSK company EHS improvement plan
  • Collaborate with EHS counterparts to ensure consistency in delivering the company strategy as well as any departmental priorities.
  • Deliver work plans associated with remediation projects established on an annual basis ensuring compliance and driving program forward
  • Deliver EHS internal and external regulatory reporting as required
  • Establish program providing assurance in matters related to environmental compliance including the identification of key risk areas, trends, and emerging environmental compliance topics
  • Work with internal partners to refresh environmental regulatory / advocacy program to ensure process exists to identify, track, and deploy strategic direction for emerging EHS topic areas
  • Accountable for providing technical expertise to GSK enterprise sites to allow them to meet EHS regulatory compliance and meet Corporate Requirements/standards.
  • Consequences of non-delivery could result in significant reputational and internal and external legal and financial impacts to GSK
  • Providing erroneous technical information and advice could result in civil or criminal prosecution e.g. personal fines for Directors or the Corporation and adverse publicity etc.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing/Science, Engineering, Quality or a relevant scientific discipline

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Recognised EHS professional internally and externally.
  • Proven project management and managerial skills abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate EHS staff as well as others managers and staff.
  • Strong ability to act as a motivator of change with customers, to facilitate the creation and development of pro-active EHS culture within an organization/team
  • Proven ability to engage in long term planning.
  • Excellent knowledge of safety & environment legislation, and an awareness of current developments and emerging issues.
  • Proven track record in dealing with business critical EHS issues and leading a matrix team to come up with and implement pragmatic value added solutions in a timely way to the satisfaction of customers.
  • Knowledgeable of federal, state, OSHA, EPA, and EHS laws and regulations
  • Good external networks to benchmark and to effectively represent the interests of GSK
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, chemical, or high risk industry
