JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Energy/Agronomy Driver REPORTS TO: Assistant General Manager

DATE: March 2023 LOCATION: Wadena, MN

Summary of the Job:

To assist in both Agronomy and the Energy department’s driving functions. During the agronomy season this person will act as applicator and will deliver and apply agronomy products in a manner that will optimize the cooperatives market share and savings, improve cooperative efficiency, help achieve the cooperative’s mission and goals and deliver customer service of the highest quality. During the rest of the year, this position will assist the Energy Department’s needs as they see fit.

Essential Functions/Principal Accountabilities of the Job:

  • Maintenance and Shop Responsibilities Perform a daily trip inspection on application equipment
  • Maintain equipment to maximize up time and resale value
  • Perform regular maintenance such as greasing, washing, cab cleaning, filter changes, etc.
  • Keep maintenance records on equipment
  • Make recommendations to the Agronomy Manager on the annual maintenance budget
  • Completes all shop repair and related tasks as needed
  • Wash vehicle as weather and operating conditions require to maintain a clean vehicle
  • Follow the regular vehicle maintenance schedule for your vehicle
  • Report any needed repairs or special maintenance to your supervisor immediately
  • Delivery

Deliver LP gas or bulk fuel to specified locations

  • Maintain efficient with EnergyForce routing system
  • Provide the customer with an accurate sales ticket and collect payment as required
  • Communicate safe storage and handling procedures to customers
  • Report to management any Hazard and Safety concerns to either self or truck
  • Fill out daily trip reports accurately and submit to supervisor daily
  • Ensure bulk plants have adequate inventory at all times
  • Follow cooperatives’ policy on customer L.P. Gas outages
  • Service Assist in developing and maintaining a keep-fill program for customers
  • Assist in developing and maintaining an efficient routing system
  • Schedule and perform routine customer tank maintenance as needed
  • Resolve customer complaints promptly
  • Deliver, connect, and maintain all outside L.P. equipment leased or sold to customers
  • Maintain rolling stock and all L.P. department fixed assets
  • Custom Apply Chemical and Fertilizer

Load product in the proper order as dictated by the label

  • Follow best management practices on rinsing, flushing and loading products
  • Schedule and route applications of product to maximize daily efficiency in coordination with the agronomy manager, water tender, applicators and fertilizer tender drivers.
  • Minimize skips and lapping of application
  • Communicate with scouts and management on current weed pressure & species so that the proper rate of chemical is applied
  • Communicate potential field condition issues with management prior to beginning applications
  • Minimize in-field downtime and performance issues do to field conditions, communicated expected issues with the agronomy manager immediately upon discovery
  • Invoice all product deliveries promptly and accurately Ensure all tickets presented to the office are correct
  • Present a copy of each transaction to the customer after each delivery
  • Turn all sales tickets into the office daily
  • Ensure all cash receipts are turned in daily and are accurate
  • Accounting

Complete application reports prior to leaving the field. Submit accurate acres and chemical, fertilizer, lime quantities used on each application report.

  • Coordinate with billing to ensure timely and accurate invoicing of jobs done.
  • Create accurate shape files and field boundary’s using mapping software when applicable.
  • Maintain equipment service interval information and maintenance records.
  • Coordinate with management on chemical, fertilizer and lime inventory ordering for planned usage.
  • Collect payment from the customer when the terms are COD. Return payments to the main office daily for deposit.
  • Enforce and uphold the cooperative’s credit policy Do not extend credit to customers on c.o.d.
  • Do not authorize customer charges on accounts that are past due
  • Maintain terms of the cooperatives credit policy as set by the Board of Directors
  • Keep all personal accounts current

MDA Commercial Pesticide Applicators License

  • MN DOT Regulations
  • EPA Regulations
  • OSHA
  • Safety Carry and use Person Protection Equipment (PPE)
  • Do not allow riders in or on equipment unless a Leaf River Ag Service Employee
  • Operate equipment at safe speeds in a safe manner.
  • Inspect equipment for potential safety hazards.
  • Operate/ Instruct drivers to do daily vehicle safely checks

Check lights and safety equipment daily

  • Obey all traffic laws, including:

- driving within posted speed limits

- stopping and looking for traffic at all stop signs

- full stop at RR Crossings w/placarded vehicle

- chock wheels when parked

  • Allow no riders who have not been approved by your supervisor
  • Other Duties Uphold all Cooperative policies
  • Maintain data privacy
  • Perform duties as requested by management
  • Complete and report to office L.P. storage and truck inventories daily
  • Attend safety and regulatory meetings as needed

Note: These are the major functions and accountabilities required of the position and are the predominant criteria by which performance will be assessed. THIS ROLE WILL ALSO INCLUDE OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.

The Custom Applicator must interact regularly and appropriately collaborate with customers and cooperative personnel

Required Qualifications, Experience & Knowledge (Minimum level of formal education required for competent performance of the technical duties; previous experience requirements; personal competencies & characteristics deemed necessary for success in the position:

  • Education and Previous Experience: A minimum of a High School Education, 2 years vocational-technical school or equivalent
  • Previous Experience: A minimum of 1-2 years of Agricultural-related job experience
  • A positive work track record

  • Customer service oriented with an ability to objectively problem solve, manage difficult customer situations
  • Resourceful, self-starter who works well in a highly disciplined environment with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to pro-actively identify areas for improvement

  • General understanding of basic mathematics, such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing and an ability to perform these operations using units of American money, weigh measurement, volume and distance;Physical Requirements of the Job: Successful performance of this job requires the physical capacity to satisfactorily perform the activities noted below.
