SUMMARY:

We are hiring an Employee Relations Specialist to join us at our corporate office in Birmingham, AL! As the Employee Relations Specialist, you will provide assistance in identifying, evaluating, and resolving employee relations and work performance problems within Hibbett / City Gear to facilitate communication and improve employee relations skills and work performance. You will be the point of contact for an assigned region and perform policy implementation, coaching, and mentoring to employees on employee relations issues and human resources policies and procedures. You will meet with supervisors and managers to determine effective remediation techniques, such as job skill training or personal intervention, to resolve employee relations issues among personnel. Ideal candidate has experience resolving employee relations issues within multiple regions or at multiple locations. This position has a hybrid schedule working onsite 50% and remote 50%.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Field calls and emails from assigned regions in regard to their human resources needs and questions.
  • Point of contact for an assigned region on all Employee Relations issues; Answer questions related to employee relations, employee disciplinary action, benefits, training, and hiring.
  • Approve or deny background check and reports for initial hires.
  • Conduct performance management for employees in assigned area.
  • Conduct quarterly meetings with new store managers.
  • Develop and conduct training to instruct organization managers, supervisors, and workers in employee relations skills such as supervisory skills, conflict resolution skills, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Carry out policy implementation.
  • Assists with on-boarding and orientation for new hires at the Store Support Center.
  • Manage and schedule employee engagement activities at the Store Support Center.
  • Oversee employee relations questions for assigned region via emails and calls. Resolve employee relations issues for assigned region.
  • Investigate all human resource related issues including but not limited to sexual harassment, retaliation, and discrimination
  • Conduct investigations on all unemployment claims and establishes the necessary information that should be reported to the appropriate state agency
  • Conduct new-hire employee orientation and ensures the proper enrollment of said employees
  • Conduct exit interviews.
  • Assist in Human Resource projects as needed.
  • Assist HR Management in reviewing Criminal Reports (Hits) and make recommendations on proper course of action.
  • Assist HR management in resolving Ethics & Compliance Reports that are reported through the NETWORK (1-800 _hotline)
  • Recommend solutions to management when repetition of individual problems indicate negative trends
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal discrimination and employment regulations
  • Provide the proper recommendations for disciplinary action.
  • Coach and mentor store employees on human resources policies and procedures.
  • Administer unemployment hearings and maintain compliance on unemployment investigations on responding to state unemployment agencies
  • Protect the company’s assets and financial information by ensuring the accuracy and effectiveness of internal control procedures and informing management and/or appropriate officials of potential fraud risk.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years experience in Human Resources, preferably as an HR Generalist handling all aspects of HR.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years experience resolving employee relations issues and investigations.
  • Workday Software experience preferred but not required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of HR laws and legislation.
  • Knowledge of HR best practices.
  • Experience working for a retail company.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR preferred but not required.
