This is a three-year fixed term position.


Student Affairs seeks an experienced professional to join the HR team. In this role, you will develop and execute strategies that enhance our overall employee experience across the employee lifecycle including but not limited to onboarding, engagement, and internal mobility. We are interested in candidates who have demonstrated experience facilitating inclusive recruitment practices and advocating for diversity and equity in the workplace.


In this role, you will:

  • Design, plan, and implement employee experience programs that foster diversity, equity, inclusion in consultation with stakeholders. This includes:
    • the first-year experience program, including orientation programs and identity-based community events
    • DEI training
    • employee appreciation and recognition programs/events
    • management and leadership development
    • fellowship, job exchange, and mentoring
    • strengths assessment and coaching
  • Collaborate closely with key stakeholders to understand critical employee interactions and journeys, identifying moments that matter and developing solutions crafted to mitigate pain points and improve the employee experience.
  • Deliver learning solutions, including training and coaching employees. Listen, observe, diagnose and provide feedback to ensure the appropriate support and guidance are provided as it relates to talent management problems and practices.
  • Serve as the liaison to the Inclusive Talent Acquisition (ITA) team and lead activities that facilitate achievement of ITA goals within Student Affairs. Participate in university efforts to build talent pipelines for underrepresented groups and pathways for internal career advancement. Execute strategies to attract diverse talent.
  • Support university wide employee satisfaction and engagement efforts. Represent Student Affairs in workgroups focused on the workplace experience, IDEAL Learning Journey, talent development, and a recurring Stanford staff engagement survey. Communicate and lead work activities in support of these efforts.
  • Manage the annual goal setting and performance review process, track submissions and prepare management reports. Support alignment of Student Affairs vision and goals in the performance review cycle. Represent Student Affairs, communicate and lead work activities related to Stanford’s performance management program.
  • Deploy measurement system to track key HR metrics and report on impact of DEI and talent engagement programs. Utilize data to evaluate effectiveness of programs, identify gaps and opportunities, and provide recommendations to the HR Director. Conduct pulse surveys and meet with focus groups.
  • Assist the HR Director in developing and implementing programs designed to eliminate systemic inequities and hidden barriers to success in the workplace in collaboration with senior leaders.
  • Communicate and increase participation in employee engagement and manager/leadership development programs. Deliver presentations and update the website.
  • Drive meaningful connections and a sense of belonging through a mix of creative and fun virtual and in-person events so that staff feel supported regardless of their flexwork arrangement, background, identity, or affiliations.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Possess leading subject matter expertise on talent management problems and practices; advise and make recommendations to university and/or unit managers.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience addressing critical issues related to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in the workplace.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish a strong partnership with the human resources partners and other members of the management team.
  • Expertise and experience developing and implementing effective talent management solutions, including workforce planning, learning and development, performance management, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Strong program/project management skills and experience.
  • Ability to build the confidence of others through open communication and respectful behavior.
  • Ability to connect with customers, partners, suppliers, and colleagues across functions to achieve significant results.
  • Data driven with the ability to generate reports, analyze data, understand trends, and develop recommendations for action.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with current and emerging employee experience issues, strategies, programs, and trends.
  • Demonstrated understanding, commitment and experience integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion in program design and implementation.
  • International Coaching Federation certification: (Professional Certified Coach, Master Certified Coach, or Advanced Certification in Team Coaching) with at least one year of experience coaching managers and staff and designing development plans.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a hybrid position which requires 2-3 days of on-site work per week.
  • May require extended or weekend work hours during peak business cycles.
  • The university requires all staff to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination prior to their start date unless granted a medical or religious accommodation.

The expected pay range for this position is $86,000 to $107,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
