General Description: Account Manager

This position serves as the primary service contact for the client and is responsible for client satisfaction. This position is expected to consistently provide excellent customer service to accounts, as well as represent client need and goals within the organization to ensure quality.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Individual would manage a book of business comprised of clients who are located both locally and nationally and are mostly fully insured but may include some self-insured clients.
  • Responsible for acting as the primary contact between clients and insurance carriers and retaining clients through customer service which includes open and clear communication channels with clients, producers and internal partners. Ensure accurate and timely responses occur between all parties.
  • Identify problems, summarize and develop strategic solutions with the client by incorporating the company’s culture, mission and future staffing needs into our recommended strategic solutions.
  • Ability to understand, support and contribute to strategic conversations initiated by the Sales Producers during internal team meetings and external client meeting.
  • As needed, attend and actively participate in meetings with prospective clients as part of the USI Service Team.
  • Expected to attend client meetings on site at their location(s). On occasion overnight travel may be required.
  • As needed, preparation of materials needed for client meetings including but not limited to agendas, reports, calendars, etc. based on USI templates.
  • Expected to have regular client contact as established by the client service calendar and renewal timeline. Client contact will include all methods: electronic, telephonic and in person.
  • Educate, advises and aid clients on all Compliance topics including, but not limited to ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, 5500s and Health Care Reform.
  • Awareness and understanding of all USI value propositions included but not limited to Population Health Management, Analytics, Benefit Resource Center, etc.
  • Communicate due dates, timelines and expectation to clients and partners.
  • Install new group insurance contracts for existing clients or new clients effectively utilizing resources to match client needs.
  • Administer renewals including preparing appropriate contractual changes.
  • May be responsible for the marketing process which includes obtaining client census and quotes, preparing and submitting bid specifications and evaluating the results in preparing recommendations for clients.
  • May be responsible to create client proposals as necessary with current and renewal details as well as marketplace options. Communicate final placement details and instructions to insurers and customers.
  • As needed, utilize analytical tools and resources to develop alternative strategies, plan modeling and cost reduction opportunities.
  • Conduct on-site meetings to communicate to employees and/or administrator about their benefit plans.
  • Develop employee memorandum drafts for client to communicate the following annual renewal changes, enrollment procedures, miscellaneous benefit changes and/or clarifications.
  • Provide resolution support and oversight of employee issues such as enrollment and billing issues. When the Benefit Resource Center is not engaged, support with escalated claim issues is also expected.
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum 2-4 years of experience in employee benefits industry or related marketplace
  • High School Graduate. 4 year college degree or industry specific designation preferred.
  • Prior customer service experience is preferred.
  • Must currently hold life and disability insurance license (or must obtain it within 4 months following date of employment) and retain license by meeting the continuing education requirements.
  • High level of computer literacy including working knowledge of Windows2007, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Sets priorities and manages work flow independently to ensure efficient, timely and accurate processing of transactions and other responsibilities.
  • Enthusiastic attitude, cooperative team player, adaptable to new or changing circumstances, professional demeanor, sensitive to client needs, self-motivated, creative and innovative.

Physical Demands:

Work is performed in a climate controlled office environment with minimal noise and limited to no exposure to chemicals or toxins. Employees operate office equipment including telephone - headset, computer, computer monitors, keyboard, mouse, copier, scanner and mail machine. Physical tasks of job include walking, sitting, standing and bending.

Analysis of Physical Demands:

  • Constantly (over 66% of time) work performed requires employees to use repetitive hand motions such as typing, using a keyboard, and sitting at a desk.
  • Frequently (34%-66% of time) work performed requires employees to handle and grasp things, walk on normal surfaces, stand and bend.
  • Occasionally (1%-33% of time) work performed requires employees to drive to client appointments, have repetitive foot movements, walk on uneven or slippery surfaces to and from work and occasionally reach outward to grab things and bend.
  • Rarely (< than 1 hour per week) work performed requires lifting/carrying items that range from 10-50lbs, pushing/pulling items that range from 10-50lbs, twisting/ turning including reaching over shoulder or above head, kneeling or squatting.
