Taconic Biosciences is seeking an Embryology Services Technician to join our Germantown, NY Embryology team.

• The Starting Pay: $20 per hour
• The Schedule: Monday – Friday, with rotating weekends (once every 6 weeks)
• The Hours: Shifts start between 6AM and 7AM

Embryology Service Technicians are responsible for general animal husbandry duties for our animals (mice/rats) in both a barrier (clean room) environment and non-barrier environment. In this important role technicians will learn the basics of animal husbandry and colony management, take samples for quality control, and perform hormone injections and tissue collections.

Duties of Embryology Service Technicians include the following:

• Ensuring high standards of animal welfare are met;
• Reporting inhuman treatment regarding animal care, use, or abuse;
• Placing animals in clean cages and supplying feed, water, and enrichment;
• Monitoring temperature and humidity and reporting concerns;
• Maintaining cleanliness of area, and biosecurity of facility;
• Documenting work performed, according to Standard Operating Procedures;
• Following procedures for gowning and for maintaining health status of designated area;
• Determining timed pregnancy, as assigned;
• Harvesting reproductive tracts;
• Genotyping of animals;
• Caring for surgically modified animals (including the removal of staples);
• Reserving, selecting, and accurately packing animals for health testing and customer orders;
• Maintaining outbred, inbred, or transgenic animal colonies;
• Euthanizing animals when necessary, according to Standard Operating Procedures;
• Updating computer databases with accurate information;
• Regular physical exertion is required, such as climbing, crouching, crawling, and/or lifting items up to 50 pounds.

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent life experience
• Minimum 6 months’ work experience
• Attention to detail
• Organization skills
• Ability to communicate well
• Basic computer and math skills required.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
