    Position: Autism Spectrum Disorder Teacher K-5
    Posting Dates: May 15, 2023 – Until Filled
    Reports To: Sheldon Woods Elementary School Principal
    Beginning: August 2023

    Qualifications:

    • Valid Michigan teaching certificate required.
    • Highly qualified Special Education ASD or EI teacher (SV or EI) endorsements required.
    • Knowledge of START and evidence-based practices.

    Job Responsibilities:
    • Ability to work well with students, staff and parents
    • Ability to communicate with administrators, parents, students and staff
    • Provide direct services, one on one or small groups.
    • Assist staff with the development and implementation of visual schedules, video models and behavioral strategies.
    • Consult on behavioral management techniques.
    • Assist staff and parents with positive intervention strategies.
    • Assist with problem solving meetings.
    • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit student needs. Program planning for ASD.
    • Assist with developing behavior intervention plans.
    • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learning of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional development meetings.
    • Collaborate with other consultants regarding teacher training through OAISD.
    • Attend IEP’s or other meetings.
    • When applicable, provide diagnostic assessments (ADOS)
    • Perform other duties as assigned.




    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
    • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
    • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
    • Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling.
    • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
    • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken work; those activities where detailed or import spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

    • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.
    • Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
    • The worker is subject to environmental conditions.
    • The worker should provide consistent and reliable attendance.
