JOB SUMMARY:

The Teacher I is responsible for the overall operation of the Infant/Toddler classroom as outlined in the Head Start Performance Standards, Head Start Act, California Department of Education, Title 22 guidelines, Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing Division 12 regulations. The teacher provides comprehensive educational, health and social services to the enrolled child and family based on the individual developmental needs of the child.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and set up a classroom environment according to the Infant Toddler Environmental Rating Scale (ITERS), program curriculum, documents on-going observation and assessments, including Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP), progress notes, and portfolio samples for the purpose of individualizing for each enrolled child.
  • Develop daily lesson plans that reflect the goals of the curriculum and the individual needs of the children.
  • Provide a high quality, nurturing, and supportive classroom environment that supports Infant and Toddlers engagement with learning.
  • Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development.
  • Help keep center orderly by sharing cleaning responsibilities and duties
  • Review and plan classroom experiences and routines with teacher assistant.
  • Responsible for the quality and timeliness of work, meeting program deadlines, submitting monthly paperwork and reports, and conducting and documenting scheduled home visits and parent conferences with enrolled families.
  • Attend and prepare all requested documentation for IEP meetings, transition meetings, parent conferences and case conferences.
  • Work with teacher assistants to create a social and emotional climate of care and respect that promotes each child's sense of trust, independence and competence.
  • Supervise and evaluate teacher assistants, work with parents in planning activities to meet the individual needs of their child and support volunteer efforts by helping parents and others feel comfortable and valued when assisting in the classroom.
  • Work in conjunction with teacher director/site supervisor, teacher assistants and the management team in completion of program goals and meeting required deadlines through planning and follow up in a timely manner.
  • Assist the teacher director and site supervisor with the supervision of children in their care by always being able to account for the children by consistently counting them throughout the day.
  • Ensure the safety and security of all children by maintaining visual supervision and an accurate census of children producible on demand and verifiable by count when requested by management, parents, or regulatory agencies.
  • Provide support to families through needs assessments, scheduled home visits and parent/teacher conferences.
  • Participate in case conferencing to develop a team approach in providing services to infants, toddlers, and their families.
  • Perform other duties as required.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate's Degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education from an accredited institution of higher education with 24 Child Development units completed including CORE classes with a grade C or better.

AND

  • One year work/volunteer pre-school teaching experience.
  • Have been trained or have equivalent coursework in early childhood education with a focus on infant and toddler development.
  • Current Child Development Teacher Permit or obtain within 6 months of employment and keep current by completing 25 hours of professional growth, annually.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Travel and attend out of area meetings and conferences as required per the funding source(s).
  • Work variable hours and days, including those outside regular Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. business hours.
  • Meet and maintain KCAO hiring requirements which include:
    • Criminal Record Clearance including California DOJ, FBI and Child Abuse Centralized Index (CACI).
    • Reliable, insured transportation and valid California Driver License
    • Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) acceptable to KCAO's vehicle insurer.
    • Health examination with tuberculin clearance.
  • AND contingent on employment candidate will be required to provide documentation of your Measles, and Pertussis immunizations.
  • Influenza immunization highly preferred.
  • Ability to be contacted outside of regularly scheduled work hours in case of emergency.
  • Provide proof of Covid 19 vaccination or medical or religious exemption, if applicable.
