Responsibilities:
The Enhanced Capabilities for Subcritical Experiments (ECSE) Program Operations Directorate is looking for a Manager I that will have the responsibility for management of detector and imaging capabilities. ECSE will include the Scorpius Linear Induction Accelerator which will require state-of-the-art radiographic imaging and the ZEUS Dense Plasma Focus which will rely on gamma ray detection. In this role, you will manage a staff of scientists, engineers, and technicians focused on design, development, deployment, and operation of imaging and detector technology. This position for the Detectors and Imaging Manager reports directly to the Director of the ECSE Program Operations directorate at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS).

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership consistent with the ECSE mission, enhance NNSS’ core capability detecting of gamma rays and radiographic imaging, and meet the challenge of improving management and operations.
  • Unify the detector and camera imaging teams at the NNSS.
  • Provide daily direction for detector and camera teams to support ECSE mission.
  • Improve/standardize procedures, reports, and datasheets for all radiation calibration and detector head characterizations in the form of visual job aids for future training of personnel.
  • Develop standard experimental plans for all detector and camera characterizations.
  • Work with the Science and Technology directorate to hire new technicians, scientists, and engineers for detector and camera imaging work as needed.
  • Work to maintain the core knowledge and technical capabilities of the group.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with site leadership, sponsors, and partners external to MSTS.
  • Provide training opportunities for staff to ensure they maintain skillsets to meet the coming challenges in ECSE.
  • Work with ECSE project managers and control account managers to manage the group’s budget and personnel resources to ensure timely projection execution and operational excellence.
  • Meet customer needs and requirements while providing realistic expectations.
  • Attain corporate objectives by organizing, developing, recruiting, and managing staff, and planning and evaluating section strategies, programmatic actions, and activities.
  • Ensure teams, processes, and deliverables comply with laws, codes, and MSTS policies and procedures.
  • Conduct goal planning, performance evaluations and assist in salary planning.
  • Ensure personnel training at the appropriate level, assist in personnel career development, complete personnel actions, and other relevant areas associated with sustaining a highly motivated workforce.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent training and experience, plus a minimum of 11 years of related and progressively responsible experience.

  • The primary work location will be at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Work at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada) may be required in support of these functions.
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

(position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Annual salary range for this position is: $118,248.00 - $189,196.80.

Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
