Overview:

A Teacher at The Goddard School is responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe, healthy, and nurturing learning environment. Additionally, he/she is responsible to work together with teammates and in conjunction with the entire faculty.

Qualifications:

· Associate's or Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education or related human services field preferred or experience working with children

· Documented experience working with children preferred

· Meets background check eligibility including required PA state clearances for child care employees

· Has knowledge of childcare programming, safety and emergency first-aid procedures, program management and customer service principles

· Develops relationships and communicate effectively with children, parents, and faculty members

· Works productively without supervision within established organizational policies and procedures

· Is highly motivated and takes direction well with excellent interpersonal and communication skills

· Is dependable and adaptable and enjoys working in teams

· Must be able to lift at least 40lbs

Responsibilities:

A Teacher’s responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Establish and maintain a safe, healthy, and nurturing learning environment

· Maintain an appropriate environment (indoors and outdoors) that is safe, healthy, neat, attractive, and clean which will support the goals and developmental level of the children in the classroom.

· Understand and implement The Goddard School® emergency procedure(s).

· Promote healthy eating practices at lunch and snack times.

· Ensure that children are always within state ratio requirements.

Advance children’s physical and intellectual competence

· Present lessons in a clear, well-organized, and logical structure, using a clear, easily understood voice that embraces enthusiasm and optimism.

· Provide students with teacher modeling, guided practice and scaffolding, and support that allows students to move toward demonstrating skills and competencies independently.

· Demonstrate a sound knowledge of subject matter and integrate technology to support student learning.

· Model Standard English speech and correct grammar at all times.

· Adapt the program to meet the individual needs of each child.

· Create a multi-cultural learning environment.

· Provide a variety of developmentally appropriate materials.

· Interact with the children to support play, exploration, and learning.

· Encourage creativity through science, technology, engineering, art, and music.

Support each child’s social and emotional development and provide positive guidance

· Plan and implement activities to develop children’s self-esteem and social skills.

· Plan and implement activities to enable children’s feeling of security.

· Encourage empathetic and respectful feelings for others, as well as the environment, through positive modeling.

· Respect cultural and ethnic diversity.

Establish positive and effective family relations

· Communicate, in a professional manner, with families and faculty.

· Encourage families to become an integral part of their children’s learning experiences.

· Provide opportunities (e.g., conferences) in which families are made to feel a part of their children’s learning experiences.

· Prepare a Daily Activity Report for each child.

· Maintain a portfolio for each child.

Ensure an effective program, responsive to children’s needs

· Assess supplies and materials needed to implement activities.

· Build teamwork.

· Develop lesson plans.

· Perform child observations and document in their portfolios.

· Use assessment tools (eg, Progress Reports, Children’s Progress).
