DSHS TIA/TSD IT System Administration - Senior/Specialist

This hosting service is responsible for agency critical systems.

This job is approximately 80% telework.

You’ll have responsibility for infrastructure architecture, standards, and integration with other disciplines. You’ll use current server and storage technologies, provide technical direction, and resolve complex issues. You'll apply your expertise and administer the day-to-day execution, maintenance, and change management of distinct areas of work to ensure business continuity; reference tools, information, and other resources to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.

Some of what you’ll do


  • Respond to server storage incidents as tier 2/3 technical support, diagnose and resolve complex server and storage system incidents for end users.
  • Coordinate with vendors and provide vendor management analysis and oversight to conduct server and storage installations, upgrades, and connectivity.
  • Oversee contracts, contract management, procurement, and asset management for the Server and Storage team.
  • Assist in planning/designing/leading/implementing upgrades and new solutions.
  • Maintain adherence to best practices in all activities to support high availability and to maintain a secure infrastructure.
  • Create, maintain, and update diagrams/documentation of evolving infrastructure and operational procedures.
  • Administer and support core Microsoft, Linux, and VMware technologies.
  • Improve current maintenance and operations processes.
  • Develop processes to address Server and Storage business needs, meet with customers to obtain business requirements, and determine options
  • Provide mentorship to other team members.
  • Provide administrative and technical support and expertise to DSHS administrations, division, and unit service area needs.
  • Provide strategic IT technology consultation and direction for server and storage services, develop technology pilots and proofs of concepts; design, test, create, and modify computer programs related to machine operating systems.
  • Responsible for an ongoing pursuit of knowledge, necessary to improve the support provided to the System, through formal training, self-motivated informal research on industry related trends and breaking news.
  • Work cross-functionally with internal and external peers to accomplish assignments with the primary goal of assisting our customers with maintaining business continuity.

What we're looking for (IT experience can be concurrent)
  • IT professionals with in-depth knowledge of currently supported Windows Server operating systems that include installing, configuring, troubleshooting, patching, and updating all aspects of a server environment.
  • Five years of experience troubleshooting, utilizing, and implementing the following Microsoft hosting and application platforms and technologies:
    • Microsoft Server
    • Active Directory
    • System Center Suite product groups
    • Reporting using various software monitoring tools.
    • Microsoft Windows Server Update Services
  • Experience with scription and automation tools such as PowerShell, Python, Ansible, or vRealize Automation
  • Experience using ExtraHop, Solarwinds, vSphere Operations Manager, and other troubleshooting software.
  • Hands-on experience with VMWare and managing and troubleshooting skills in VMWare ESXi Server Infrastructure
  • Working knowledge of Software Defined Storage/VSAN, virtualization, VMWare, AWS, Azure, or equivalent.
  • Five years of Storage Area Network (SANs) experience in installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and updating SANs
  • Working knowledge of Project Management principles, ITIL framework best practices, and any Incident Management System
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written), documentation skills, interpersonal skills, and problem-solving skills in both a back office and in a customer-facing capacity.
  • Organizational and assertiveness skills, flexibility, and ability to work effectively in teams and independently.
